Signs the car has been giving you
The light is late news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have usually been building for a while:
- less power, especially going uphill
- you notice the revs never reach where they always went
- fuel use going worse
- quietly, the stop/start packs in
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under the throttle
That is not conclusive by itself. Next to the light, it is a fair bet the filter is loaded.
Why diesel particulate filters clog around Blackjack
