Blackheath, Surrey: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Sorting the DPF takes place at the motor, not at a workshop. A fitter comes at your place across Blackheath, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the car, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
You'll be given a figure by phone before anyone leaves, the clean starting from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
If the light is on already and the motor is low on power, this page is for you. That is how most drivers get to us.
DPF light on? What comes next
First thing: it is not automatically the unit. A number of faults put the very same light on the very same panel, which is why a visit starts with a scan rather than with a clean.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then counts.
- A long constant run may yet be enough, provided the light is amber and the motor goes fine. Costs zero, so try that before ringing.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has by then gone.
- Stop planning long drives and get it looked at if the cabin reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
Before the light, what the car was warning you
Symptoms have usually been mounting for a while before the light so much as appears. Belated news, in other words:
- less power, especially climbing uphill
- you notice the revs stop short of where they once went
- fuel use that is worse than before
- the stop/start without a word giving up
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gears
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not conclusive. It is a fair bet the filter is blocked once the light is on as well.
Blocked diesel particulate filters near Blackheath, and the reason
For a DPF, the poorest motoring is the type you find across a rural village such as Blackheath. Think about a typical week: Chilworth CofE (Aided) Infant School and back, Littleford Lane at a crawl before half nine, a short hop to Co-op Food, a run to Chilworth. Not much there runs long enough or gets hot enough to complete a regeneration. The unburnt soot banks up rather than burning away.
Neither is far from Blackheath: under 10 miles to the M25, under 50 miles to Westminster. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the run that would empty a filter simply never comes.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode kills it
What limp mode amounts to is the car defending itself. The real problem is that a sustained drive works by setting off a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is limited.
Good advice, that motorway run — up until the moment it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that point: cleaning is what will do it, not more driving.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle across Blackheath
The filter does not come off. That is the detail most people do not anticipate: the job takes place with the DPF yet bolted to the motor, on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can wait for a few hours.
First a scan. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a figure, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the connected parts — all of it logged before a thing is touched.
Then comes the clean itself: solution in through the car's own entry point, expanding inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration never can. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to take doing twice.
What the clean has loosened is then cleared by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Blackheath if you are there, or a static regeneration where the motor sits, with the live data verified after.
Both sets of figures come through by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second scan is what verifies the change, puts out the light and notes whatever is still outstanding.
What a DPF clean will not touch
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean fixes. It will not reach:
- the wrong reading from a temperature sensor
- the EGR valve jammed open
- a fault in the AdBlue system
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration running at all
- oil passing through the filter from a failing turbo
That is what the first diagnostic is for. Transpiring to be one of them means learning it before any work starts, not after settling up a penny.
DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is replaced: the filter you own is cleaned where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it hollowed out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth noting.
DPF cleaning charges around Blackheath
A call-out charge stands whatever the outcome, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice passed on. The clean itself opens from £299.
Once we have what you own, and broadly what the filter will want, the figure gets fixed on the phone. A single price for all would not be truthful. The car changes it, and so does the postcode — Blackheath, Wonersh, or anywhere otherwise out in the GU postcode area.
Cleaning that will not work is not a clean you pay for, and the check is what says so. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone came out, carried out the scan and passed on you the advice.
The clean carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Blackheath if the light returns inside that window.
Excellent service called at 8.30 booked in arrived promptly, all completed with in the morning. Explained the process and what he would do. Quick easy no hassle. Daz was friendly, polite and knowledgeable. 100% would recommend.
Really helpful, told me why the filter had blocked in the first place and managed to clean it out fully.
Excellent service from Gareth at DPF fixer. Very thorough, gave full and clear explanation of problem, extremely helpful. Worth every penny for peace of mind and sorting problem.
Vehicles we clean, and where we travel near Blackheath
Whatever it is — estate, light van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the one on-site service stands, and the filter never leaves it.
Technicians are along Littleford Lane most weeks, so Blackheath is seldom a journey of its own, and the same run picks up Wonersh, East Shalford and the spots out past Chilworth. Coverage reaches UK-wide, so even further out across Surrey is nonetheless worth a ring, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the calendar rather than the distance.

Common questions on DPF cleaning across Blackheath
- Can I simply take it for a long drive?
- Soon enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. That means motorway speed for a long run, rather than a short trip to Co-op Food.
- The visit runs how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily clogged filter can need a second clean, which extends that.
- How much does it come to across Blackheath?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the scan and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why quoting goes by phone.
- Do I have to be around?
- Somewhere for the car to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. Come along if you prefer, and the regeneration becomes a supervised drive.
- How soon can someone come to Blackheath?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the diary. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is available across the GU area.
- The filter — does it leave the motor?
- Not on the on-site service — it is treated where it sits. Neither getting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light returns?
- An engineer comes back out to Blackheath — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
