Mobile DPF Cleaning serving Birks, Greater Manchester
On-site DPF cleaning goes to the car. No garage, no filter coming off. A fitter comes to your door in Birks, cleans the diesel particulate filter as it sits, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
You'll be given a price by phone before anyone leaves, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.
The light is on already and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we usually meet people, and what this page deals with.
The DPF light is on. What next?
First thing: it is not automatically the unit. Plenty of faults put the very same light on the very same dash, which is why a visit begins with a diagnostic rather than with treatment.
The driving you do in the meantime tells. That is the second thing.
- Car yet driving as normal on an amber light — have a go at a long steady run first. It costs nothing at all and frequently shifts the filter without assistance.
- Motor already gone into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not touch it now.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under the throttle — stop booking long drives and get it seen to.
What the car has been showing you
Last news, the light. The symptoms generally grow for weeks before it arrives:
- power dropping away, particularly pulling uphill
- you find the revs stop short of where they used to go
- fuel use that is worse than before
- silently, the stop/start packs in
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under the throttle
That is not proof on its own. Alongside the light, it is a fair bet the filter is loaded.
Why diesel particulate filters choke near Birks
Birks is a residential suburb, and the driving that comes with one is the worst kind for a DPF. The school run to Hey-with-Zion Primary School, New Royd Avenue at a standstill at half past eight, a few minutes to Asda, the hop to Greenfield — none of it lasts long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. What should burn off stays behind.
Unless you have a regular cause to drive out to the A627(M), under 5 miles from Birks, or across to Manchester under 10 miles away, entire weeks pass without a sustained run. Geography is unhelpful.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode ends it
What limp mode comes down to is the vehicle looking after itself. A long drive works by starting a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode rules out: power capped, revs kept low, no regeneration available.
So the usual advice to take it up the motorway is sensible advice, until the day it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that line: a clean is what will do it, not more driving.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the motor stands across Birks
Nothing is taken from the vehicle. That surprises people. The DPF remains bolted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can sit for a couple of hours.
The ECU is interrogated first, giving soot load by percentage and by weight, along with a look over of sensors, glow plugs and associated hardware, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still possible.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never shift are loosened after that, by a solution fed through the access point on that vehicle, which expands inside the filter. Badly loaded filters sometimes need a second pass.
A regeneration follows, burning off what the clean has freed. Come with the motor and it becomes a monitored drive out of Birks. Drop it and the regeneration is done statically, with running data verified once it is done.
Then a second scan, proving the change, resetting the warning light and logging anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are emailed, so the before and after figures are on record.
What a DPF clean will not touch
Cleaning cures one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- the wrong figure from a pressure or temperature sensor
- an EGR valve held open
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- faulty glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever starts
- a turbo passing oil through the filter
That is what the first check is for. You are told before all work begins, not after you have settled up, should it turns out to be one of those.
Two things more worth knowing. Having the filter hollowed out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a working DPF fails its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your original filter is treated in place and put back into use.
DPF cleaning costs in Birks
Treatment begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.
No flat rate would be straight, so the price is settled on the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. A pair of things move it: what you drive, and where you are — Birks itself, over at Waterhead, or otherwise out within the OL postcode area.
You are not asked to pay for treatment that the scan says will not work. Because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have been done, the call-out charge still holds.
The work carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Birks if the light reappears inside that time.
Brilliant! Spoke to someone on the phone and they had availability next day to get me booked in! The issue was solved in a timely manner and I got sent a report detailing everything. Great company! Would defo recommend!
Excellent customer service knowledgeable and very efficient booking service. Professional and friendly technician - good to see a customer focused company these days. Would recommend to others.
Dave was really helpful, cleaned my DPF and fixed the fault codes. He also identified another issue with my van. Would highly recommend using this company.
Where we get to round Birks, and what we clean
The filter is done on the vehicle on all of them: cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is moved anywhere.
The same round that has our engineers on New Royd Avenue most weeks picks up Birks, Waterhead, Taylor Green and the places beyond Scouthead. Call anyway from further out around Greater Manchester. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the date you are given comes down to the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Things Birks drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run shift it?
- If you catch it in time, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. Ten minutes to Asda and back will not be enough; motorway speed, kept for some time, will.
- Does the visit take long?
- Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is badly blocked.
- The cost around Birks — what is it?
- It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the scan and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the price, so we settle it on the phone.
- Must I be around in person?
- You need not stand with it — the motor just needs space to sit for a couple of hours. Choosing to be there is no problem: the regeneration then is done out on the open road, monitored.
- Can someone travel to Birks soon?
- You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the schedule. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is available across the OL area.
- Does the filter come off the car?
- On the on-site service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. Taking a filter off or putting one back on count as anything a job we do whichever way.
- What if the light returns?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Birks.
