Mobile DPF Cleaner

Birdwood, Gloucestershire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Mobile DPF cleaning comes to the motor. A technician turns up at your place in Birdwood, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the car, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.

The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the price is fixed on the phone before anyone leaves.

Most drivers find us with the light on already, and the vehicle low on power. That is the situation this page is aimed at.

The DPF light is on. What then?

First thing: it is not always the filter. That light can follow plenty of faults, not only one, so the visit starts with a diagnostic and not with treatment.

The driving you manage in the meantime matters. That is the second thing.

  • Motor still driving fine on an amber light — try a long constant run first. It costs nothing and frequently clears the filter without assistance.
  • That window has shut once the car has slipped into limp mode. Driving will not do it now.
  • Stop arranging long drives and get it seen to if the car stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.

Before the light, what the motor was telling you

The light is last news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been building for a while:

  • falling off on power, particularly uphill
  • the revs no longer rise the way they always did
  • worse fuel consumption
  • without a word, the stop/start bows out
  • diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the box

Any one of those, taken singly, is not evidence. With the light with them, the filter is a fair guess.

Why diesel particulate filters choke round Birdwood

For a DPF, the worst driving is the type you find across a rural village such as Birdwood. Not one bit of it lasts long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to Churcham Primary School, Spring Dale crawling at half eight, five minutes to The Co-operative Food, the run to Gloucester. Soot that should burn away collects instead.

Except when you have a regular cause to head out to the M5, under 10 miles from Birdwood, or out to Gloucester under 10 miles away, entire weeks pass without a long steady run. Geography is unhelpful.

DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode stops it

It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode means. A proper drive works by starting a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode rules out: power capped, revs held down, no regeneration on offer.

Good advice, that motorway run — until the point it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that point: cleaning is what will help, not more driving.

Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is treated round Birdwood

Nothing is taken from the car. That surprises people. The DPF remains fitted where it is and the work is done around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can sit for two hours or so.

First a scan. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a weight, the sensors, the glow plugs, the associated parts — all of it logged before a thing is touched.

Then comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the car's own access point, opening out inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration will not. Where the filter is severely loaded, allow for a second pass.

What the clean has freed is then driven off by a regeneration. Stay with the car and it becomes a monitored drive out of Birdwood. Leave it and the regeneration goes statically, with live data verified once it is done.

A second scan proves the change, puts out the warning light and lists anything still showing. Both reports are emailed, so you end up with the before and after figures on record.

What a DPF clean will not touch

One thing is what cleaning fixes — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • the wrong figure from a pressure or temperature sensor
  • an EGR valve held open
  • AdBlue system problems
  • a regeneration that never runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • turbo failure, with oil entering the filter

Which is why the diagnostic comes first. Turning out to be one of them means hearing it before the work gets going, not after paying for it.

A couple more worth noting. Getting the filter cut out is not a fix — a vehicle without a working DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your original filter is treated in place and put back into use.

DPF cleaning costs around Birdwood

A clean starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.

Once we have what you run, and about what the filter will want, the figure gets settled over phone. A single price for everyone would not be straight. Where you are matters as much as what you run: Birdwood itself, Upper Ley next door, or otherwise out within the GL postcode area.

If the check counts cleaning out, there is no charge to pay for it. What even so applies is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the diagnostic was run and the advice was given.

A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the work, and that includes an engineer travelling back out to Birdwood if the light reappears inside the period.

A vehicle having its DPF treated across Birdwood

Thomas was great, explained everything to me so I understood and got my car back on the road. Really informative and gave good advice.

Daisy F.

Had been quoted £2000 to replace DPF by my garage. DPF came home and fixed it for £400 or so, car runs perfectly now. Great service, highly recommend.

Carlo M.

Mechanic who did the dpf cleaning was really good at his job, explained everything he was doing and gave me some pointers on keeping the dpf cleaner for longer. It is pricey but cheaper than replacing the dpf.

Where we get to around Birdwood, and what we clean

Private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery — a single mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done on the vehicle rather than moved anywhere.

Birdwood is hardly ever a special trip: our engineers are working Spring Dale most weeks, and the same run takes in Upper Ley, Huntley and the places out past Churcham. It is the calendar, not the distance, that settles whether it is this day or the next, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so ring still from even further out around Gloucestershire.

Usual questions on DPF cleaning across Birdwood

Is a long drive enough alone?
It can, provided you get it early and limp mode has not set in. That means motorway speed for a sustained run, rather than a quick trip to The Co-operative Food.
The visit takes how long?
Allow typically around 2 hours — severely clogged filters sometimes need a second pass, which adds to it.
How much does it come to across Birdwood?
Treatment starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the price.
Do I have to be there?
No. The car needs somewhere to stand for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. Travel along if you would rather, and the regeneration becomes a watched drive.
Can someone travel to Birdwood soon?
That hangs on the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. Phone 0303 330 1830 what is available across the GL area.
Does the filter leave the vehicle?
On the call-out service, no: the filter is done in place. Taking a filter off or bolting one back on count as anything work we do whichever way.
The light comes back — then what?
The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Birdwood.
