Bickleigh, Devon: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With on-site DPF cleaning, we come to the car. An engineer comes at your address across Bickleigh, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the car, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.
Nobody travels until the price is settled on the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
Written for the position most drivers are in: the light showing, the car starved for power, and the clean still to arrange.
Your DPF light is on — what then?
First thing: it is not always the DPF. Plenty of faults put the same light on the very same panel, which is why a visit starts with a scan rather than with cleaning.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then matters.
- Vehicle yet driving normally on an amber light — have a go at a long even run first. It costs nothing at all and often clears the filter without assistance.
- Car already gone into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not reach it now.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop planning long drives and get it seen to.
The car has been warning you already
The light is late news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been mounting for some time:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- you find the revs stop short of where they once went
- fuel economy turning worse
- stop/start without a word giving up
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under hard acceleration
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not conclusive. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is full.
Why diesel particulate filters block round Bickleigh
Being a village, Bickleigh generates precisely the use a DPF handles the poorest. Nothing of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to Bickleigh Down Church of England Primary School, New Road standing at the morning rush, five minutes to Lidl, the hop to Bere Ferrers. What should burn off stays put.
The M5 sits under 50 miles from Bickleigh, Plymouth under 10 miles out, and unless something pulls you out that way routinely, full weeks pass without the long steady run that scours a filter. Geography does not help.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
The car is protecting itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. The real problem is that a long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is held down.
So the common advice to take it up the motorway is sound advice, up until the day it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that point: a clean is what will do it, not more miles.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle in Bickleigh
Nothing leaves the vehicle. That throws people. The DPF remains fixed where it is and the work is done around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, any place it can wait for a few hours.
First a scan. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a mass, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the related components — all of it taken before a thing is touched.
A cleaning fluid then is injected through the entry point on that car, expanding inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move. Heavily loaded filters sometimes need a second pass.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean lifted. That is a monitored drive out of Bickleigh if you are there, or a static regeneration where the vehicle waits, with the real-time data checked once done.
A second check proves the change, clears the warning light and notes anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are sent over, so you end up with the before and after figures recorded.
The failures a DPF clean cannot fix
Only one fault is cured by cleaning: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does nothing for:
- sensors, temperature or pressure, flagging a restriction that is not real
- EGR valves that hang open
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- failed glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever completes
- a turbo passing oil through the filter
Which is why the diagnostic goes first. You are let know before any work gets going, not after you have paid, if it turns out to be one of those.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no remedy. What gets typed in as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your existing filter is cleared in place and goes back into use.
The cost for DPF cleaning across Bickleigh
The clean starts from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that goes with it.
Once we have what you run, and broadly what the filter will want, the figure gets agreed on the phone. A single price for all would not be truthful. Two separate things change it: what you drive, and where you are — Bickleigh itself, over at Bickleigh Down, or farther out across the PL postcode area.
If the check rules treatment out, there is not a penny to pay for it. You even so pay that charge: someone turned up, carried out the scan and gave you the advice.
A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer coming back out to Bickleigh if the light reappears inside the period.
I called and within a couple of hours my car that could barely move was driving like new again. Really quick, friendly and professional service. Very happy with the service I received.
Attila was very professional knew what he was dealing with fixed the problem, fingers crossed the problem won't return as it has every time the garage has fixed it.
Great work from Daz cleaning the DPF and all round great advice and information. And all done at home with their door to door service.
The vehicles we clean and the ground we take in round Bickleigh
The filter is cleaned on the vehicle on all of them: private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is carried anywhere.
Bickleigh is hardly ever a special trip: engineers are out on New Road most weeks, and the same run covers Bickleigh Down, Woolwell and the spots out past Shaugh Prior. Coverage reaches UK-wide, so farther out around Devon is nonetheless worth a phone call, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

Things Bickleigh drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run clear it?
- If you spot it in time, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. It needs a steady run at motorway speed, not five minutes to Lidl and back.
- The visit lasts how long?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is severely loaded.
- The cost around Bickleigh — what is it?
- Treatment opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Pricing is done by phone, since what you run and where you are both move the number.
- Do I have to be present?
- No. The vehicle requires somewhere to stand for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. Come along if you would rather, and the regeneration turns into a supervised drive.
- How soon can someone travel to Bickleigh?
- Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is usual. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is free across the PL area.
- The filter — does it leave the motor?
- On the on-site service, no: the filter is done in place. Lifting a filter off or bolting one back on come to anything a job we do whichever way.
- And if the light comes back?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Bickleigh.
