Berry, Devon: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Treating the DPF takes place at the vehicle, not at a workshop. Your car will not be taken away and the filter does not budge. A fitter comes at your door over in Berry, clears the diesel particulate filter on the vehicle and runs a DPF regeneration.
Budget for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean opens from £299, fixed by the phone before anyone sets off.
Most people find us with the light on already, and the car down on power. That is exactly what this page is aimed at.
The DPF light is on. What then?
Not the unit, automatically. Opening thing to say. Plenty of faults put the identical light on the very same panel, which is why a visit opens with a check rather than with cleaning.
The motoring you get in the meantime matters. That is the next thing.
- Worth a try before you book anything: amber light, car driving as normal, just one even run, no charge.
- That window has gone once the motor has slipped into limp mode. Driving will not get there now.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration, is the moment to stop arranging long drives and ring.
The vehicle has been telling you already
Symptoms have generally been mounting for some time before the light ever arrives. Late news, in other words:
- pulling uphill, the power drops away
- you notice the revs never reach where they once went
- the fuel use is down
- the stop/start without a word giving up
- the car stinking of diesel, or smoke when you press on
Any one of those, taken singly, is not evidence. With the light alongside them, the filter is a fair guess.
Why diesel particulate filters clog round Berry
Being a rural hamlet, Berry generates exactly the driving a DPF copes with the poorest. The school run to Shebbear Community School, Sunset Heights at a halt at half past eight, a few minutes to Lidl, the dash to the nearest station — none of it lasts long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the soot load banks up.
Unless you have a regular need to head out to the M5, under 50 miles from Berry, or across to Exeter under 50 miles away, entire weeks pass without a long unbroken run. Geography is no help.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer run
What limp mode amounts to is the car protecting itself. Pulling power is capped, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter needs can never run — which is the entire problem, because a long drive works by setting off that regeneration.
Sound advice, that motorway run — up until the day it is not. The far side of that point — limp mode — driving will not be enough, and the filter needs a clean.
On-site DPF cleaning where the car stands in Berry
Nothing leaves the motor. That catches out people. The DPF stays fitted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a drive, in a works car park, wherever it can sit for a few hours.
First a scan. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a figure, the sensors, the glow plugs, the associated components — all of it taken before anything is started.
A cleaning solution next is fed in through the access point on that car, spreading inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. Heavily loaded filters sometimes take a second pass.
A regeneration comes next, driving off what the clean has freed. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Berry, with you present, or it is done where the car sits and the real-time data is verified afterwards.
Both reports come through by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second diagnostic is what confirms the change, puts out the light and notes whatever is still outstanding.
When a DPF clean is not the fix
One thing is what a clean answers — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- pressure or temperature sensors flagging a block that is not there
- the EGR valve stuck open
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration running whatsoever
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
Which is why the diagnostic happens first. Where it is found to be one of those, you are warned before any work gets going rather than after you have handed over anything.
Cutting the filter out is not a solution: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the term people type in, though nothing is replaced — your original filter is treated in place and put back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.
DPF cleaning costs in Berry
The clean starts from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that goes with it.
Quoting a flat rate would not be truthful. We fix it by phone, once the car and its probable needs are known. A pair of things shift it: what you drive, and where you are — Berry itself, out at Shebbear, or further out across the EX postcode area.
If the scan counts treatment out, there is nothing to pay for it. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone came out, carried out the diagnostic and passed on you the advice.
A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the work, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Berry if the light returns inside the time.
Liam did a great job at both explaining the process and carrying out the clean. Car feels so much better now! Many thanks.
Great company, I was in a bit of a situation where I needed my DPF cleaned as I needed the car back in the road! They managed to send out someone within 3 hours and the person they sent was thorough and professional!!
A friendly and professional service, I was particularly impressed with the stress placed on understanding the way in which the exhaust emission control system works and the importance of regularly topping up the AdBlue tank.
Vehicles we clean, and where we reach near Berry
Whatever it is — private car, light van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, farm vehicle — the same on-site service stands, and the filter never quits it.
Technicians are along Sunset Heights most weeks, so Berry is hardly ever a detour, and the same run takes in Shebbear, Highworthy and the spots out past Stibb Cross. Coverage is UK-wide, so even further out across Devon is even so worth a phone call, and what settles between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

What Berry drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough by itself?
- Early enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. That means motorway speed for a long stretch, rather than a quick trip to Lidl.
- The visit lasts how long?
- Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is severely clogged.
- Across Berry, what does it run to?
- Starting from £299, with a charge for the call-out that takes in the check and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both move the price, so we settle it on the phone.
- Have I got to be present?
- Somewhere for the motor to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. Preferring to be there is no problem: the regeneration then runs out on the road, monitored.
- When can someone come to Berry?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is usual. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the EX area has free.
- Is the filter removed from the car?
- Treated where it stands, on this service, so no. We do not get filters off or bolt them back on, whichever way.
- What if the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Berry.
