Batch, Somerset: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Cleaning the DPF is done at the car, not at a workshop. Your car isn't taken anywhere and the filter does not leave it. A technician comes at your address over in Batch, treats the diesel particulate filter still on the vehicle and performs a DPF regeneration.
Nobody sets off until the price is fixed on the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
Most people find us with the light already on, and the vehicle short of power. That is exactly what this page is aimed at.
The DPF light is on. What then?
The unit is not necessarily what is wrong, and that goes first. A clean is not where a visit starts. A scan is — several faults appear as the same light.
How the vehicle is run in the meantime matters too.
- Amber light, vehicle yet driving fine — a long even run can even now shift it by itself. Costs nothing at all, and worth trying before you call anything.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has by then gone.
- Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop planning long drives and get it checked.
What the motor has been warning you
The light is last news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been growing for a while:
- power falling off, particularly pulling uphill
- an engine whose revs will not rise as they should
- the fuel consumption is poorer
- a stop/start that has silently given up
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
None of that is evidence by itself. It is a fair assumption the filter is full once the light is on as well.
What blocks diesel particulate filters round Batch
Batch is a rural hamlet, and the day-to-day driving that comes with one is the least kind sort for a DPF. A regeneration takes long enough and heat, and gets neither: not on the school run to Lympsham Church of England Academy, not on Wharfside at half past eight, not on ten minutes to Lidl, and not on the run to Weston-Super-Mare. The unburnt soot collects rather than clearing.
The M5 sits under 3 miles from Batch, Wells under 15 miles out, and unless something carries you out that way often, whole weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that scours a filter. Geography does not assist.
Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration
Limp mode is the motor defending itself. A proper drive works by starting a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode prevents: power capped, revs held down, no regeneration on offer.
So the common advice to take it up the motorway is sensible advice, right until it is not. In limp mode you are past that line: treatment is what will help, not more miles.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands round Batch
On your front, in a work car park, anywhere the motor can stand for a few hours: the job is done with the filter yet fixed on, which is the detail most people do not see coming.
First a check. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a figure, the sensors, the glow plugs, the related hardware — all of it read before a thing is cleaned.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never budge are loosened second, by a cleaning fluid passed through the entry point on that vehicle, which opens out inside the filter. Where the filter is badly clogged, expect a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Batch if you are along, or a static regeneration where the motor waits, with the live data checked afterwards.
A second scan verifies the change, puts out the warning light and lists anything still open. Both read-outs are emailed over, so you have the before and after figures on record.
What a DPF clean will not cure
Only one fault is answered by treatment: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does little for:
- the wrong figure from a temperature sensor
- an EGR valve stuck open
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration running at all
- oil passing through the filter from a failing turbo
Which is why the diagnostic comes first. You are told before any work gets going, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.
DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is replaced: the filter you have is cleared where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it gutted a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth knowing.
DPF cleaning prices around Batch
Treatment begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.
No flat rate would be truthful, so the number is agreed over the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. The motor shifts it, and so does the postcode — Batch, Lympsham, or a spot further out in the BS postcode area.
If the check writes cleaning out, there is not a penny to pay for it. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened, the call-out charge nonetheless holds.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer comes back to Batch.
Thank you Nic, you have done a great job for me today. DPF cleaned and all warning lights cleared, drives like new.
They arrived on time and were very knowledgeable. Explained what he was doing and showed the results. Very pleased with the service thank you.
Excellent service came to my home address was polite and explained the process then got on with the job.
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to round Batch
The filter is cleaned in place on all of them: cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is taken anywhere.
Batch is hardly ever a special trip: technicians are working Wharfside nearly every week, and the same run takes in Lympsham, Wonderstone and the spots out past Bleadon. Coverage runs UK-wide, so further out around Somerset is nonetheless worth a ring, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

Things Batch drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive sort it?
- If you spot it early enough, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. A long run at motorway speed is what it wants — not fifteen minutes flat to Lidl and back.
- The visit runs how long?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is severely loaded.
- How much does it run to around Batch?
- A clean begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the scan and the advice. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the number.
- Must I be around in person?
- A spot for the car to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a supervised drive instead.
- How soon can someone come to Batch?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the diary. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the BS area has free.
- Does the filter come off the car?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is done in place. Neither lifting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- The light returns — then what?
- An engineer comes back out to Batch — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
