Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Barrachan, Dumfries and Galloway
Call-out DPF cleaning travels to the motor. No garage, no filter coming off. A fitter drives out to your place over in Barrachan, treats the diesel particulate filter in place, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.
You'll know a number by phone before anyone goes, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
The light is on already and the car is down on power — that is how we normally find people, and roughly what this page is about.
DPF light on? What comes next
First thing: it is not necessarily the unit. Cleaning is not where a visit starts. A diagnostic is — a number of faults appear as the same warning.
The use you manage in the meantime tells. That is the other thing.
- A long constant run may still be enough, provided the light is amber and the car drives fine. Costs nothing, so have a go at that before calling.
- Once the car is in limp mode, a long run will not touch it. The window has closed.
- Stop planning long drives and get it checked if the interior stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
The car has been telling you already
By the time the light arrives, things have generally been slipping for a while. It is late news:
- power tailing off, above all climbing uphill
- revs that will not pull the way they used to
- worse fuel economy
- a stop/start that has silently given up
- the car smelling of diesel, or smoke when you press on
On its own, none of that is proof. Next to the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is blocked.
The explanation diesel particulate filters choke near Barrachan
For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the sort you meet in a rural hamlet such as Barrachan. The school run to the local primary school, B7052 at a halt at the morning rush, ten minutes to The Co-operative Food, the run to the nearest station — not one bit of it lasts long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. What should clear stays behind.
Neither is far from Barrachan: over 50 miles to the A74(M), over 50 miles to Belfast. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the run that would scour a filter simply never gets made.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
Limp mode is the vehicle defending itself. With pulling power held down and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter requires can never complete at all. That counts, because triggering one is exactly what a sustained run does.
So the usual advice to take it up the motorway is sensible advice, up until the day it is not. Beyond that line — limp mode — driving will not be enough, and the filter requires cleaning.
The motor stays in place for on-site DPF cleaning in Barrachan
On your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the car can wait for a while: the job happens with the filter still bolted on, which is the part most drivers do not anticipate.
A scan goes first — live data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by actual weight, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated parts, so other faults are eliminated before anything is touched.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never move are freed after that, by a cleaning fluid fed through the entry point on that car, which expands inside the filter. A second pass is sometimes called for on severely clogged filters.
What the clean has lifted is then driven off by a regeneration. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Barrachan; if not, in place where the car stands, with the live data verified afterwards.
Then a second check, proving the change, putting out the warning light and listing anything still logged. Both sets of figures are sent over, so the before and after figures are recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean answers. It will not help:
- a pressure sensor flagging a blockage that is not there
- a failed EGR valve
- AdBlue system faults
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration starting whatsoever
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
Which is why the check comes first. Transpiring to be one of them means hearing it before the work begins, not after paying a penny.
A couple more worth noting. Getting the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a working DPF fails its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleared in place and sent back into use.
What DPF cleaning runs to across Barrachan
Cleaning opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.
Once we know what you drive, and broadly what the filter will take, the figure gets settled by phone. A single price for all would not be truthful. Whereabouts you are counts as much as what you own: Barrachan itself, Loch Head next door, or otherwise out in the DG postcode area.
A clean that will not work is not cleaning you pay for, and the check is what says so. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone came out, did the diagnostic and offered you the advice.
A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the work, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Barrachan if the light comes back inside the window.
Amazing service! Had a DPF issue (I don't do short journeys) and BMW wanted £3333.73 for a new DPF along with ancillary components. DPF Fixer charged £390. Absolutely amazing service. Very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable! I would definitely recommend them to anyone with a DPF issue.
Brilliant company! Highly recommend! came out to us next day! Paid an upfront fee over the phone which was reasonable and they didn't even charge us for the outstanding balance due to a damage DPF. Such lovely people, honest, reliable, trustworthy professional company would definitely use/recommend. Thanks again Guys.
Came within the time specified. Done the job as requested and provided much needed advice on what the car needs going forward. I will definitely recommend to anyone.
What we clean, and how far we reach near Barrachan
The filter is treated on the vehicle on all of them: cars and estates, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is moved anywhere.
Week in week out there is already someone on B7052, so Barrachan hardly ever means a special trip, and Loch Head, Elrig and the villages past Mochrum follow. It is the calendar, not the distance, that settles whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage extends UK-wide — so ring anyway from farther out across Dumfries and Galloway.

Things Barrachan drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I simply take it for a long drive?
- If you spot it in time, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. That means motorway speed for a steady spell, rather than a short trip to The Co-operative Food.
- The visit runs how long?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is severely clogged.
- How much does it run to in Barrachan?
- Treatment starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the figure.
- Must I be there in person?
- The car requires a space for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. Preferring to be there is welcome: the regeneration then goes out on the open road, monitored.
- When can someone travel to Barrachan?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the schedule. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is available across the DG area.
- Does the filter come away from the motor?
- Not on the mobile service — it is cleaned where it is. Taking a filter off or fitting one back on come to anything work we do in either direction.
- What if the light reappears?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Barrachan.
