Banknock, Falkirk: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With mobile DPF cleaning, we drive out to the vehicle. A fitter arrives at your door in Banknock, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the car, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.
Nobody sets off until the price is fixed by the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
The light is showing and the motor is low on power — that is how we normally come across people, and what this page is about.
Your DPF light is on — what then?
Not the DPF, always. Opening thing to get straight. A diagnostic happens before the work, because that same dashboard light has a number of possible faults behind it.
It tells what you manage with the car between now and the visit.
- Car even now driving fine on an amber light — attempt a long steady run first. It costs nothing and often clears the filter without help.
- Once the vehicle is in limp mode, motoring will not touch it. The window has shut.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration, is the moment to stop arranging long drives and ring.
What the motor has been showing you
By the time the light arrives, things have normally been slipping for some time. It is last news:
- less power, especially going uphill
- you see the revs fall short of where they once went
- the fuel consumption is poorer
- a stop/start that has meekly bowed out
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof. With the light, it is a fair bet the filter is blocked.
Why diesel particulate filters block around Banknock
For a DPF, the poorest motoring is the kind you find across a village such as Banknock. Think about an ordinary week: the local primary school and back, Braeface Road at a halt before nine, a short hop to Scotmid, a run to Cumbernauld. Nothing there runs long enough or gets hot enough to complete a regeneration. Soot that should burn off banks up instead.
The M80 sits under a mile from Banknock, Stirling under 10 miles out, and unless something pulls you out that way often, entire weeks pass without the long unbroken run that clears a unit. Geography does not help.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
Limp mode is the car looking after itself. With output capped and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter requires cannot complete at all. That counts, because starting one is just what a long run does.
Good advice, that motorway run — up until the point it is not. The filter needs cleaning rather than driving once the vehicle has gone into limp mode.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle in Banknock
Nothing is taken from the motor. That surprises people. The DPF stays fixed where it is and the work happens around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, wherever it can wait for two hours or so.
A diagnostic comes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and related parts, so other faults are cleared before anything is touched.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never budge are loosened second, by a cleaning solution passed through the access point on that vehicle, which opens out inside the filter. A second pass is sometimes required on heavily loaded filters.
Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has loosened. Stay with the vehicle and it is done as a monitored drive out of Banknock. Drop it and the regeneration is done on the spot, with real-time data checked once it is done.
Both reports are sent by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second check is what verifies the change, puts out the light and lists whatever is still outstanding.
Where a clean is not the answer
Treatment fixes one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, reporting a block that is not real
- a failed EGR valve
- an AdBlue system problem
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration completing at all
- turbo problems, with oil reaching the filter
That is what the first check is for. Where one of those is the fault, you hear about it up front rather than once the money has gone for good.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no solution. What gets searched for as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your existing filter is cleaned in place and goes back into use.
The cost for DPF cleaning across Banknock
The treatment begins from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that follows.
The number is agreed over the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be honest. What you drive and where you are both shift it: Banknock itself, across at Coneypark, or farther out across the FK postcode area.
Where the scan says cleaning will not work, you are not asked to pay for cleaning. You still pay that charge: someone came out, carried out the check and passed on you the advice.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer comes back to Banknock.
Great company, technician came out same day as I reported the issue. Fair price. Liam the technician explained everything, the process and after care to prevent issue happening in future. Highly recommend. Many thanks. Ben.
Excellent professional and very useful SCOTTISH bloke Nat was full of knowledge great to deal with and on time superb would recommend to any other garage or customer thanks.
Great experience with DPF. We got an appointment next day and the customer service was great all the way through. Whilst I hope I don't have to use them again, I would recommend to anyone!
Vehicles we clean, and where we travel near Banknock
Cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, agricultural machinery — the one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than moved anywhere.
Banknock is seldom a special trip: technicians are along Braeface Road nearly every week, and the same run picks up Coneypark, Auchincloch and the villages out past Haggs. It is the calendar, not the distance, that picks whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so ring anyway from further out through Falkirk.

Things Banknock drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run sort it?
- Sometimes, if you catch it in time and the car has not slipped into limp mode. It wants a steady run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes or so to Scotmid and back.
- How long does the visit run?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A badly loaded filter can need a second clean, which extends that.
- How much does it run to across Banknock?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why pricing goes by phone.
- Have I got to be present?
- No. The motor needs a spot to stand for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. Come along if you like, and the regeneration becomes a watched drive.
- How soon can someone travel to Banknock?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is typical. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is free across the FK area.
- The filter — does it come off the motor?
- Not on the on-site service — it is cleaned where it sits. Neither getting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer returning to Banknock.
