Bangor, County Down: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With mobile DPF cleaning, we travel to the motor. Your vehicle isn't taken away and the filter does not budge. A technician arrives at your place in Bangor, clears the diesel particulate filter on the car and runs a DPF regeneration.
Nobody leaves until the figure is fixed by the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
If the light is already on and the motor is low on power, this page is for you. That is how most people get to us.
DPF light on? What comes next
Not the filter, necessarily. First thing to say. A diagnostic goes before any work, because that same dashboard light has plenty of candidate faults behind it.
How the car is run in the meantime makes a difference too.
- A long steady run may even now be enough, provided the light is amber and the car runs fine. Costs zero, so attempt that before booking.
- Car already fallen into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not reach it now.
- Get it seen to rather than using it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.
What the car has been warning you
The light is last news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been mounting for weeks:
- less power, particularly going uphill
- an engine whose revs will not rise as before
- the fuel consumption is poorer
- silently, the stop/start gives up
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under acceleration
That is not conclusive on its own. Next to the light, it is a fair guess the filter is loaded.
Blocked diesel particulate filters around Bangor, and the why
For a DPF, the poorest use is the kind you find across a coastal town such as Bangor. Run through an ordinary week: the local primary school and home, South Crescent at a standstill before nine, a quick trip to the local shops, a run to the nearest station. Not much there lasts long enough or runs hot enough to complete a regeneration. Unburnt soot that should burn off builds up instead.
Save when you have a routine cause to drive out to the M77, over 50 miles from Bangor, or over to Belfast under 15 miles away, whole weeks go by without a long unbroken stint. Geography is no help.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
The car is defending itself, which is what limp mode is. With pulling power limited and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter wants cannot complete at all. That counts, because starting one is precisely what a sustained run does.
Taking it up the motorway is the common advice, and it holds as far as a limit. In limp mode you are the far side of that line: cleaning is what will work, not more driving.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle round Bangor
On your front, in a work car park, wherever the car can sit for a couple of hours: the job is done with the filter yet bolted on, which is the detail most people do not expect.
First a check. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a weight, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the associated hardware — all of it taken before anything is cleaned.
A solution then is fed in through the access point on that motor, spreading inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never shift. Severely loaded filters sometimes require a second pass.
What the clean has freed is then burned off by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Bangor if you are present, or a static regeneration where the vehicle stands, with the real-time data verified afterwards.
Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change confirmed, the light reset, anything still open noted. Both sets of figures come to you by email, so the numbers are on record.
Where a clean is not the answer
A clean answers one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- the wrong reading from a pressure or temperature sensor
- the EGR valve held open
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration completing at all
- a turbo putting oil through the filter
Which is why the diagnostic goes first. When it proves to be one of those, you are told before any work starts rather than after you have paid anything.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out will fail its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no fix. What gets searched for as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your existing filter is treated in place and goes back into work.
DPF cleaning charges around Bangor
The cleaning starts from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that follows.
No flat rate would be honest, so the price is settled over the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. The car moves it, and so does the location — Bangor, Crawfordsburn, or a spot farther out in the BT postcode area.
Where the diagnostic says treatment will not do it, you are not billed for cleaning. You even so pay that charge: someone travelled, did the check and offered you the advice.
If the light reappears inside that period, an engineer travels back out to Bangor — the clean carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.
My father in law used this service. He was very impressed with the whole process and Kieran was very knowledgeable and explained everything thoroughly. Highly recommend.
Diagnosed my engine. Didn't need the clean. Gave me a diagnostic report and did not rip me off. I felt completely satisfied with the information given. Callum was polite, helpful and respectful. Good representative for the company.
Highly recommended I went plenty places to fix DPF but no one could and very expensive new one then found here called them same day they came and fixed now all good and best customer service they give before work and after work as well.
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to around Bangor
One on-site service covers cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is treated in place rather than carried anywhere.
Bangor is rarely a special trip: engineers are out on South Crescent most weeks, and the same run picks up Crawfordsburn, Helens Bay and the spots out past Newtownards. Further out through County Down is nonetheless worth phoning about — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that settles between today and tomorrow.

What Bangor drivers wonder about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- If you catch it in time, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. A steady run at motorway speed is what it wants — not ten minutes or so to the local shops and back.
- How long does the visit last?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is heavily blocked.
- Across Bangor, what does it run to?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for travelling that covers the scan and advice on what to do next. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the price.
- Do I have to be around?
- The motor wants a place for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a supervised drive instead.
- Can someone travel to Bangor soon?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the schedule. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is free across the BT area.
- Does the filter come off the motor?
- Not on the call-out service — it is cleaned where it stands. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- And if the light returns?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Bangor.
