Mobile DPF Cleaning in Bakesdown and Cornwall
With call-out DPF cleaning, we drive out to the motor. A fitter arrives at your door in Bakesdown, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the vehicle, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.
Nobody travels until the figure is fixed over the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
Most drivers find us with the light on already, and the car down on power. That is the position this page is aimed at.
Your DPF light is on — what then?
Not the DPF, automatically. Opening thing to get straight. Plenty of faults put the identical light on the very same dashboard, which is why a visit opens with a scan rather than with a clean.
How the car is handled in the meantime makes a difference too.
- Worth a try before you ring anything: amber light, motor driving fine, just one constant run, no outlay.
- Once the vehicle is in limp mode, motoring will not shift it. The window has gone.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under acceleration — stop arranging long drives and get it looked at.
Before the light, what the vehicle was telling you
Symptoms have normally been building for weeks before the light ever appears. Belated news, in other words:
- tailing off on power, above all uphill
- revs that will not pull the way they always did
- fuel use that is worse than it used to be
- without a word, the stop/start bows out
- the car smelling of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
By itself, none of that is proof. Next to the light with them, the filter is a fair bet.
Clogged diesel particulate filters around Bakesdown, and the reason
For a DPF, the poorest motoring is the type you get across a small village such as Bakesdown. A regeneration wants long enough and heat, and sees neither: not on the school run to Whitstone Primary School, not on Sharlands Road at the morning rush, not on a few minutes to Lidl, and not on the hop to the nearest station. Instead of burning away, the soot collects.
Neither is a long way from Bakesdown: under 50 miles to the M5, under 50 miles to Plymouth. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the drive that would clear a filter never happens.
Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode amounts to. Power is capped, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter wants can no longer run — which is the real difficulty, because a proper drive works by triggering that regeneration.
Sensible advice, that motorway run — until the moment it is not. The far side of that line — limp mode — more driving will not manage it, and the filter requires cleaning.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is cleaned across Bakesdown
Most people do not see coming this part: the filter remains. The job happens with the DPF yet fixed to the vehicle — on your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the motor can wait for a couple of hours.
First a scan. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a mass, the sensors, the glow plugs, the associated hardware — all of it read before a thing is cleaned.
Next comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the car's own access point, expanding inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration cannot. Heavily blocked filters sometimes take a second pass.
What the clean has lifted is then cleared by a regeneration. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Bakesdown, with you present, or it runs where the motor stands and the running data is verified after.
Both sets of figures come through by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second scan is what verifies the change, puts out the light and logs whatever is still outstanding.
Where cleaning is not the solution
A clean answers one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- the wrong figure from a pressure or temperature sensor
- the EGR valve jammed open
- a problem in the AdBlue system
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration starting at all
- oil coming through the filter from a faulty turbo
That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are let know before all work gets going, not after you have settled up, if it turns out to be one of those.
Two things more worth noting. Getting the filter gutted is not a solution — a vehicle without a functioning DPF fails its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your existing filter is treated in place and returned into use.
The price of DPF cleaning in Bakesdown
A call-out charge applies whatever happens, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice given. The clean itself begins from £299.
The figure is fixed on the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be straight. The motor shifts it, and so does the postcode — Bakesdown, Borough, or anywhere further out in the EX postcode area.
You are not charged for treatment that the scan says will not work. What still applies is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the diagnostic was run and the advice was offered.
The work carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Bakesdown if the light comes back inside that time.
Really impressed with this! Very easy to arrange, really helpful chap called Andras who carried out the clean and diagnostics, and much much cheaper than replacing the filter so saved me a lot of money. Highly recommended.
Booked late Wednesday and the job done on the Friday. Igor the technical was brilliant. He explained how the cleaning work and gave aftercare guidance too. Slight downside is the cost at £420 a pop.
I had Kieran unblock my DPF today, can't fault him. He called me before he arrived to let me know he was on his way, explained everything to me before and after!
The vehicles we clean and the area we take in around Bakesdown
The filter is done in place on all of them: private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.
The same round that has our engineers on Sharlands Road most weeks covers Bakesdown, Borough, Whitstone and the spots beyond Week St Mary. Phone anyway from even further out through Cornwall. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the slot you are given comes down to the diary rather than how far away you are.

Things Bakesdown drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run clear it?
- Soon enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. It takes a long run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes to Lidl and back.
- Does the visit take long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely loaded filter can need cleaning twice, which adds time.
- How much does it run to across Bakesdown?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the check and the advice. Pricing is done by phone, since what you drive and where you live both change the price.
- Is it needed for me to be there?
- No. The motor wants space to stand for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive instead.
- When can someone get to Bakesdown?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is now in the schedule. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is available across the EX area.
- The filter — does it come off the car?
- It is cleaned where it is, on the mobile service. Taking a filter off or fitting one back on come to anything a job we do either way.
- And if the light comes back?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer returning to Bakesdown.
