Mobile DPF Cleaner

Bacon End, Essex: Mobile DPF Cleaning

The vehicle remains where it is — call-out DPF cleaning travels to it. The fitter pulls up at your address in Bacon End and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned still on the motor, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you keep the filter you came with.

The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the price is settled over the phone before anyone travels.

If the light is showing and the motor is low on power, this page is the right one. That is how most people end up here.

DPF light on? What happens next

It could not be the DPF whatsoever. That is the opening thing. A number of faults put the very same light on the same dash, which is why a visit opens with a check rather than with treatment.

How the motor is driven in the meantime matters too.

  • Worth a go before you call anything: amber light, motor driving as normal, just one constant run, no charge.
  • That window has closed once the motor has dropped into limp mode. A drive will not do it now.
  • A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under the throttle, is the stage to stop arranging long drives and ring.

Signs the motor has been sending you

Symptoms have generally been mounting for some time before the light so much as appears. Belated news, in other words:

  • power falling off, above all pulling uphill
  • revs that will not climb the way they once did
  • consumption that is worse than it used to be
  • the stop/start quietly packing in
  • smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in there

Any one of those, taken by itself, is not evidence. It is a fair guess the filter is full once the light is there too.

Blocked diesel particulate filters near Bacon End, and the reason

For a DPF, the poorest driving is the sort you find across a rural hamlet such as Bacon End. A regeneration takes time and heat, and has none: not on the school run to Great Dunmow Primary School, not on Bacon End Road at the morning rush, not on a few minutes to Tesco, and not on the run to Stansted Airport. Instead of burning off, the soot load builds up.

Except when you have a standing cause to head out to the M11, under 10 miles from Bacon End, or across to Chelmsford under 10 miles away, entire weeks slip past without a sustained stint. Geography is no help.

DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode ends it

The motor is defending itself, which is what limp mode means. Pulling power is capped, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter requires can not run — which is the entire catch, because a long drive works by triggering that regeneration.

So the usual advice to get it up the motorway is sound advice, until the day it is not. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are beyond that stage, and the filter wants cleaning rather than more driving.

The clogged filter cleaned after a warning light in Bacon End, Essex

Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is treated across Bacon End

Nothing is taken from the car. That catches out people. The DPF remains bolted where it is and the work is done around it, on a drive, in a works car park, wherever it can sit for two hours or so.

First a diagnostic. Live ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the associated parts — all of it taken before anything is touched.

Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never move are loosened next, by a solution fed through the access point on that car, which spreads inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to need doing twice.

What the clean has loosened is then burned off by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Bacon End if you are present, or a static regeneration where the car sits, with the live data checked afterwards.

Then a second diagnostic, verifying the change, putting out the warning light and noting anything still showing. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so the before and after figures are on record.

When a DPF clean is not the solution

Only one fault is fixed by cleaning: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does no good for:

  • the wrong figure from a pressure or temperature sensor
  • the EGR valve jammed open
  • the AdBlue system failing
  • failed glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever runs
  • a turbo passing oil through the filter

Which is why the diagnostic comes first. If it turns out to be one of those, you are warned before any work starts rather than after you have paid for it.

Hollowing the filter out is not a fix: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the wording people type in, though nothing is swapped — your existing filter is treated in place and returned into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.

The price for DPF cleaning in Bacon End

The treatment starts from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that goes with it.

The price is agreed on the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. No flat rate could be truthful. The vehicle changes it, and so does the location — Bacon End, Baconend Green, or somewhere further out in the CM postcode area.

You are not asked to pay for cleaning that the scan says will not do it. The call-out charge nonetheless applies, because the visit, the scan and the advice have taken place.

The job carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Bacon End if the light reappears inside that window.

The vehicles we clean and the ground we cover near Bacon End

Whatever it is — private car, panel van, light commercial, heavy goods vehicle, plant, construction machinery, farm vehicle — the very same mobile service stands, and the filter never leaves it.

Most weeks there is already someone on Bacon End Road, so Bacon End seldom means a detour, and Baconend Green, Pharisee Green and the villages past High Roding follow. Ring anyway from further out across Essex. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the slot you are given comes down to the schedule rather than how far away you are.

Questions Bacon End drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Can I simply take it for a long drive?
If you get it early, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. That calls for motorway speed for a long stretch, rather than a quick trip to Tesco.
The visit takes how long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A severely blocked filter can need a second clean, which lengthens that.
Cost across Bacon End — what is it?
Treatment begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Settling it is done by phone, since what you drive and where you are both move the price.
Must I be there in person?
Space for the car to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. The regeneration can be carried out as a supervised drive if you would rather be there.
Coming to Bacon End — how soon?
That comes down to the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the CM area has available.
The filter — does it come off the motor?
Not on the mobile service — it is treated where it stands. And neither does getting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
Suppose the light comes back?
The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Bacon End.
