Symptoms have usually been mounting for some time before the light ever appears. Late news, in other words:

- a stop/start that has quietly given up
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is full.
Why diesel particulate filters block near Auchnagatt
