Mobile DPF Cleaning across Aston and Shropshire

The car sits where it is — call-out DPF cleaning comes to it. Your vehicle is not taken off and the filter doesn't come off. An engineer comes at your door over in Aston, clears the diesel particulate filter fitted to the vehicle and carries out a DPF regeneration.

You'll be given a figure by phone before anyone departs, the clean opening from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.

The light is already on and the motor is short of power — that is how we generally come across people, and roughly what this page covers.

What to check when the DPF light shows

First thing: it is not always the filter. That light can arise from plenty of faults, not only one, so the visit opens with a scan and not with cleaning.

How the motor is handled in the meantime counts too.

  • Amber light, motor yet driving as normal — a long even run can yet clear it on its own. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you call anything.
  • That window has shut once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. A drive will not get there now.
  • A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under acceleration, is the moment to stop booking long drives and ring.

What the motor has been warning you

Symptoms have generally been growing for some time before the light ever appears. Last news, in other words:

  • less power, particularly climbing uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not rise as before
  • fuel economy turning worse
  • the stop/start without a word packing in
  • the car stinking of diesel, or smoke when you press on

Any one of those, taken alone, is not proof. Alongside the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.

The reason diesel particulate filters clog round Aston

Being a rural hamlet, Aston generates precisely the use a DPF handles least well. A regeneration takes long enough and heat, and sees neither: not on the school run to Claverley CofE Primary School, not on Danford Lane at the morning rush, not on a few minutes to Sainsbury's, and not on the dash to Albrighton. The soot load builds up rather than burning off.

Save when you have a routine need to head out to the M54, under 10 miles from Aston, or over to Wolverhampton under 10 miles away, whole weeks go by without a sustained stint. Geography is unhelpful.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out

Limp mode is the car defending itself. The real problem is that a long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is capped.

Getting it up the motorway is the common advice, and it works right up to a line. Once the car is in limp mode you are past that point, and the filter wants a clean rather than driving.

DPF cleaning at the vehicle in Aston

Nothing comes off the car. That throws people. The DPF stays fitted where it is and the work happens around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, any place it can wait for a couple of hours.

Nothing is started until other faults are cleared. That means a diagnostic first: running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a review of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected components.

Then comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the motor's own access point, opening out inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration cannot. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to need doing twice.

Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has lifted. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Aston; if not, in place where the vehicle waits, with the running data checked afterwards.

Both sets of figures are sent by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second scan is what confirms the change, resets the light and logs whatever is still showing.

When a DPF clean is not the solution

Only one fault is cured by treatment: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does little for:

  • pressure or temperature sensors reporting a block that is not there
  • the EGR valve stuck open
  • AdBlue system faults
  • faulty glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever runs
  • turbo trouble, with oil entering the filter

The first scan is there for precisely that. You are warned before all work begins, not after you have paid, if it turns out to be one of those.

DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is swapped: the filter you already own is cleared where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it cut out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth noting.

The figure of DPF cleaning around Aston

Treatment begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.

Once we know what you run, and broadly what the filter will want, the price gets fixed over phone. A single price for all would not be straight. A pair of things move it: what you drive, and where you are — Aston itself, over at Heathton, or otherwise out within the WV postcode area.

If the diagnostic writes cleaning out, there is nothing to pay for it. You even so pay that charge: someone travelled, ran the diagnostic and gave you the advice.

A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Aston if the light returns inside the time.

Vehicles we clean, and where we travel near Aston

Whatever it is — estate, panel van, light commercial, heavy goods vehicle, plant, construction machinery, agricultural machine — the one mobile service holds, and the filter never departs it.

Aston is rarely a special trip: technicians are along Danford Lane nearly every week, and the same run takes in Heathton, Long Common and the villages out past Claverley. It is the calendar, not the distance, that decides whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so phone even from further out through Shropshire.

Things Aston drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough on its own?
If you get it early, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. Fifteen minutes to Sainsbury's and back will not be enough; motorway speed, held for a while, will.
Does the visit take long?
Expect typically around 2 hours — badly loaded filters sometimes take a second pass, which lengthens it.
Across Aston, what does it come to?
The call-out charge pays for the visit, the check and the advice; cleaning itself starts from £299. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why pricing goes by phone.
Do I have to be around?
Somewhere for the car to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a monitored drive instead.
Travelling to Aston — how soon?
That comes down to the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is available across the WV area.
Is the filter taken off the car?
It is cleaned where it is, on the mobile service. Lifting a filter off or bolting one back on come to anything a job we do either way.
The light returns — then what?
The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Aston.
