Ashaig, Highland: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Call-out DPF cleaning goes to the car. No workshop, no filter going anywhere. A fitter drives out to your door over in Ashaig, cleans the diesel particulate filter in place, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.
You'll be given a price by phone before anyone goes, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
If the light is on already and the car is short of power, this page is for you. That is how most drivers get to us.
The DPF light is on. What then?
The DPF is not necessarily what is to blame, and that leads. Plenty of faults put the same light on the very same dash, which is why a visit opens with a scan rather than with a clean.
How the vehicle is handled in the meantime counts too.
- Amber light, motor still driving normally — a long even run can still clear it alone. Costs nothing at all, and worth trying before you ring anything.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, driving will not shift it. The window has closed.
- Stop arranging long drives and get it checked if the cabin smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.
What the vehicle has been showing you
The light is belated news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have usually been building for some time:
- going uphill, the power tails off
- an engine whose revs will not climb like they did
- consumption that is worse than it was
- the stop/start without a word bowing out
- the cabin smelling of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not conclusive. It is a fair guess the filter is loaded once the light is showing too.
Clogged diesel particulate filters round Ashaig, and the cause
Being a rural hamlet, Ashaig throws up exactly the use a DPF manages the poorest. Nothing of it lasts long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to the local primary school, Committee Road crawling at the morning rush, a few minutes to Co-op Food, the run to Kyle of Lochalsh. What should burn off stays put.
The M9 lies over 50 miles from Ashaig, Inverness over 50 miles away, and unless something pulls you out that way routinely, full weeks pass without the long steady run that clears a filter. Geography does not oblige.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode kills it
What limp mode comes down to is the vehicle defending itself. Output is limited, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter requires can no longer run — which is the whole catch, because a sustained drive works by triggering that regeneration.
Good advice, that motorway run — until the day it is not. In limp mode you are past that line: treatment is what will work, not more miles.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is done round Ashaig
The filter does not leave it. That is the detail most drivers do not anticipate: the job happens with the DPF yet fitted to the car, on your drive, in a work car park, any place the motor can sit for a couple of hours.
First a diagnostic. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a figure, the sensors, the glow plugs, the connected hardware — all of it logged before any of it is started.
Next comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the motor's own access port, expanding inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration will not. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to require doing twice.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean freed. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Ashaig, with you present, or it goes where the motor waits and the live data is checked afterwards.
Both reports come through by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second check is what verifies the change, puts out the light and logs whatever is still outstanding.
Where cleaning is not the fix
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing treatment answers. It will not help:
- a pressure sensor flagging a restriction that is not there
- EGR valves that jam open
- an AdBlue system fault
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration starting whatsoever
- the turbo pushing oil into the filter
That is what the first check is for. If one of those is the fault, you hear about it up front rather than once the money has gone already.
A couple more worth noting. Leaving the filter cut out is not a fix — a vehicle without a functioning DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your own filter is treated in place and put back into use.
What DPF cleaning comes to in Ashaig
A call-out charge stands whatever follows, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice offered. The clean itself begins from £299.
Naming a flat rate would not be straight. We fix it on the phone, once the car and its probable needs are clear. What you run and where you are both move it: Ashaig itself, over at Sgalamus, or otherwise out in the IV postcode area.
If the check rules treatment out, there is nothing to pay for it. You still pay that charge: someone turned up, did the scan and gave you the advice.
Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer heads back to Ashaig.
Liam glory attended my vehicle, he was very professional and thorough in all his work and very informative with what I had to do next, I would use this company again and recommend to others.
Really impressed with this! Very easy to arrange, really helpful chap called Andras who carried out the clean and diagnostics, and much much cheaper than replacing the filter so saved me a lot of money. Highly recommended.
Daniel was very professional and honest. You should be proud to have him as a valuable team member. I will be willing to recommend DPF fixer to anyone that needs your service in the future. Thank you all so much Bobby.
What we clean, and how far we travel near Ashaig
Whatever it is — car, panel van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the one mobile service holds, and the filter never departs it.
Nearly every week there is by then someone on Committee Road, so Ashaig hardly ever means a special trip, and Sgalamus, Harrapool and the villages past Breacais come with it. Coverage is UK-wide, so even further out through Highland is nonetheless worth a call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning across Ashaig
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- Early enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. It wants a sustained run at motorway speed, not five minutes or so to Co-op Food and back.
- About how long does it last?
- Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is badly loaded.
- How much does it run to across Ashaig?
- The call-out charge covers the visit, the check and the advice; treatment itself begins from £299. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the price.
- Do I have to be around?
- No. The car wants somewhere to stand for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive instead.
- Getting to Ashaig — how soon?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is usual. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the IV area has open.
- The filter — does it leave the car?
- Treated where it stands, on this service, so no. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer returning to Ashaig.
