Ardo, Aberdeenshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

The motor stays where it is — call-out DPF cleaning comes to it. Your vehicle isn't taken off and the filter does not leave it. An engineer turns up at your door across Ardo, clears the diesel particulate filter still on the vehicle and carries out a DPF regeneration.

You'll know a number by phone before anyone leaves, the clean opening from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.

If the light is showing and the car is low on power, this page is for you. That is how most drivers arrive here.

Your DPF light is lit — what then?

The unit is not always what is at fault, and that goes first. That light can follow a number of faults, not only one, so the visit begins with a check and not with a clean.

The driving you manage in the meantime matters. That is the next thing.

  • A long steady run may still be enough, provided the light is amber and the motor drives normally. Costs nothing at all, so try that before ringing.
  • A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has by then closed.
  • Stop booking long drives and get it seen to if the interior reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.

Before the light, what the car was telling you

Symptoms have usually been growing for weeks before the light ever appears. Belated news, in other words:

  • less power, especially pulling uphill
  • revs that will not rise the way they once did
  • fuel consumption getting worse
  • the stop/start silently giving up
  • the interior smelling of diesel, or smoke when you press on

None of that is evidence on its own. Next to the light with them, the filter is a fair guess.

What chokes diesel particulate filters near Ardo

Ardo is an area, and the motoring that goes with one is the poorest sort for a DPF. A regeneration needs long enough and heat, and has neither: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on B9005 at the morning rush, not on five minutes to Co-op Food, and not on the hop to Inverurie. Instead of burning away, the unburnt soot banks up.

The M90 stands over 50 miles from Ardo, Aberdeen under 25 miles away, and unless something carries you out that way regularly, whole weeks pass without the long steady run that empties a filter. Geography does not help.

Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration

The vehicle is protecting itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. A sustained drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode rules out: power limited, revs pinned, no regeneration on offer.

Getting it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it works up to a point. Once the car is in limp mode you are past that line, and the filter wants treatment rather than more driving.

DPF cleaning at the car round Ardo

The filter does not budge. That is the bit most drivers do not expect: the job takes place with the DPF even now fixed to the motor, on your front, in a work car park, any place the car can stand for a while.

The ECU is taken first, reporting soot load by proportion and by actual weight, along with a review of sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated parts, so nothing is touched while another fault is still in play.

After that comes the clean itself: solution in through the motor's own access port, expanding inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration never can. A second pass is sometimes required on heavily clogged filters.

What the clean has loosened is then driven off by a regeneration. Come with the motor and it is done as a monitored drive out of Ardo. Drop it and the regeneration goes on the spot, with live data checked once it is done.

Finally the check runs again — the change verified, the light reset, anything still showing logged. Both read-outs come to you by email, so the numbers are recorded.

Where treatment is not the fix

One thing is what treatment fixes — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:

  • the wrong figure from a pressure or temperature sensor
  • a jammed EGR valve
  • a problem in the AdBlue system
  • injectors or glow plugs that prevent a regeneration completing at all
  • oil passing through the filter from a worn turbo

Which is why the check comes first. Turning out to be one of them means finding out it before any work gets going, not after paying for it.

DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is replaced: the filter you own is cleaned where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it cut out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth noting.

The price of DPF cleaning around Ardo

Any visit takes a call-out charge — coming out to you, setting up the booking, carrying out the scan and offering the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.

Quoting a flat rate would not be truthful. We fix it over phone, once the motor and its likely needs are clear. Whereabouts you are matters as much as what you run: Ardo itself, Gight close by, or further out in the AB postcode area.

Treatment that will not help is not treatment you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. The call-out charge even so holds, because the visit, the check and the advice have been done.

If the light comes back inside that period, an engineer travels back out to Ardo — the work comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.

Vehicles we clean, and where we reach near Ardo

One mobile service takes in cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated in place rather than moved anywhere.

The same run that puts technicians on B9005 most weeks picks up Ardo, Gight, Brownhill and the villages beyond Methlick. Even further out around Aberdeenshire is even so worth ringing about — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that decides between one day and the next.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning across Ardo

Is a long drive enough alone?
Sometimes, if you get it early and the car has not fallen into limp mode. Five minutes to Co-op Food and back will not be enough; motorway speed, sustained for a stretch, will.
The visit lasts how long?
That is typically around 2 hours, though a badly clogged filter can require cleaning twice, which takes longer.
How much does it come to around Ardo?
The call-out charge takes in the visit, the scan and the advice; treatment itself starts from £299. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the number.
Do I have to be there?
No. The car wants a spot to sit for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. The regeneration can be carried out as a supervised drive if you would prefer to ride along.
Coming to Ardo — how soon?
Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is normal. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is free across the AB area.
Does the filter come away from the motor?
On the mobile service, no: the filter is done in place. We will not take filters off or fit them back on, in either direction.
And if the light comes back?
An engineer travels back out to Ardo — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
