Ardchyle, Stirling: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Sorting the DPF happens at the car, not at a garage. The fitter arrives at your door in Ardchyle and starts. The diesel particulate filter is cleared fitted to the vehicle, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you end up with the filter you came with.
Nobody travels until the price is fixed on the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
Most people find us with the light showing, and the motor short of power. That is exactly what this page is written for.
The DPF light is on. What next?
Not the unit, always. First thing to get straight. Plenty of faults put the identical light on the same dash, which is why a visit starts with a scan rather than with cleaning.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then matters.
- Amber light, motor yet driving as normal — a long steady run can still clear it alone. Costs zero, and worth a try before you call anything.
- Car already fallen into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not touch it now.
- Get it checked rather than using it — diesel in the car, or smoke on the throttle, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
Before the light, what the car was warning you
Symptoms have generally been mounting for weeks before the light so much as arrives. Belated news, in other words:
- going uphill, the power drops away
- revs that will not climb the way they used to
- worse fuel consumption
- without a word, the stop/start bows out
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
That is not evidence by itself. With the light alongside them, the filter is a fair bet.
What blocks diesel particulate filters round Ardchyle
The driving that goes with a rural hamlet like Ardchyle is the poorest sort for a DPF. The school run to the local primary school, A85 at a crawl at half eight, ten minutes to The Co-operative Food, the run to Crianlarich — nothing of it runs long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. Instead of burning off, the soot banks up.
Neither is distant from Ardchyle: under 25 miles to the M9, under 50 miles to Stirling. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the run that would empty a filter never happens.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode kills it
Limp mode is the car protecting itself. A proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode prevents: power capped, revs kept low, no regeneration available.
Sound advice, that motorway run — up until the day it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that point: a clean is what will help, not more driving.
Call-out DPF cleaning where the motor stands round Ardchyle
On your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the car can wait for a couple of hours: the job happens with the filter still fitted on, which is the bit most owners do not anticipate.
The ECU is taken first, showing soot load by percentage and by actual weight, along with a look over of sensors, glow plugs and associated parts, so nothing is started while another fault is still possible.
Then comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the vehicle's own access point, spreading inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration cannot. A second pass is sometimes called for on badly blocked filters.
A regeneration is next, burning off what the clean has freed. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Ardchyle, with you present, or it is done where the vehicle sits and the live data is checked once done.
Then a second scan, verifying the change, resetting the warning light and logging anything still showing. Both reports are emailed, so the before and after figures are on record.
Where cleaning is not the fix
One thing is what a clean cures — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- the wrong figure from a pressure or temperature sensor
- EGR valves that stick open
- an AdBlue system failure
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration starting whatsoever
- the turbo pushing oil into the filter
Which is why the diagnostic goes first. You are warned before all work gets going, not after you have paid, if it turns out to be one of those.
DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is exchanged: the filter you have is cleared where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it gutted a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth knowing.
The price of DPF cleaning around Ardchyle
Cleaning opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.
No single flat rate would be truthful, so the price is settled by the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. What you drive and where you are both move it: Ardchyle itself, over at Killin, or further out within the FK postcode area.
You are not billed for cleaning that the scan says will not do it. You even so pay that charge: someone travelled, did the scan and gave you the advice.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer heads back to Ardchyle.
Id recommend DPF Fixer when your dpf needs cleaning. Daniel who attended to my car was friendly, knowledgeable, explaining what the problem was and how he fixed it. I also needed a replacement sensor which Daniel sorted. A very good service. Thank you.
Great service from Darren. He explained everything this he was doing and answered questions with confidence. Would use them again if I have any troubles again.
Engineer did a analysis check, found system was clean. He found the that the sensors needed resetting so no extra charge. Happy to recommend this service.
What we clean, and how far we travel near Ardchyle
The one on-site service takes in private cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is cleaned in place rather than taken anywhere.
The same trip that puts engineers on A85 most weeks picks up Ardchyle, Killin, Lochearnhead and the spots beyond Balquhidder. It is the calendar, not the distance, that picks whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so call anyway from farther out around Stirling.

Things Ardchyle drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- If you catch it early enough, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. That means motorway speed for a long run, rather than a brief trip to The Co-operative Food.
- The visit takes how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily loaded filter can take a second clean, which extends that.
- Across Ardchyle, what does it cost?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for the call-out that takes in the scan and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both shift the price, so we quote on the phone.
- Is it essential for me to be around?
- Nobody expects you to stand with it — the vehicle just wants a spot to sit for a couple of hours. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be done as a monitored drive instead.
- When can someone travel to Ardchyle?
- That comes down to the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is open across the FK area.
- The filter — does it leave the vehicle?
- Not on the on-site service — it is treated where it stands. Neither lifting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- What if the light comes back?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Ardchyle.
