Amotherby, North Yorkshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Cleaning the DPF takes place at the vehicle, not at a body shop. No body shop, no filter leaving. A technician drives out to your address over in Amotherby, cleans the diesel particulate filter in place, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.
The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the figure is settled on the phone before anyone leaves.
If the light is on already and the motor is low on power, this page is for you. That is how most drivers get to us.
Your DPF light is on — what then?
Not the DPF, automatically. Main thing to get straight. A number of faults put the very same light on the identical panel, which is why a visit starts with a check rather than with cleaning.
The use you get in the meantime tells. That is the second thing.
- A long even run may still manage it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle goes as normal. Costs zero, so try that before calling.
- Vehicle already dropped into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not reach it now.
- Get it looked at rather than running it — diesel in the car, or smoke on the throttle, has gone well past the long-run stage.
The car has been telling you already
By the time the light arrives, things have generally been deteriorating for a while. It is belated news:
- less power, particularly going uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they always did
- fuel consumption turning worse
- the stop/start without a word bowing out
- the cabin reeking of diesel, or smoke when you press on
That is not evidence by itself. With the light alongside them, the filter is a fair guess.
The cause diesel particulate filters block around Amotherby
For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the sort you find around a rural village such as Amotherby. Think about an ordinary week: Amotherby Community Primary School and back, High Street at a halt before the hour, a five-minute run to Heron Foods, a run to Malton. Not much there goes on long enough or is hot enough to complete a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the unburnt soot collects.
The map does not help either. The A1(M) is under 25 miles from Amotherby and York is under 25 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way often, whole weeks go by without the long unbroken run that could scour the filter alone.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode stops it
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode is. With power capped and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter needs cannot run at all. That counts, because triggering one is exactly what a sustained run does.
Taking it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it stands right up to a limit. Past that line — limp mode — more driving will not manage it, and the filter needs a clean.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle in Amotherby
Nothing leaves the vehicle. That catches out people. The DPF remains bolted where it is and the work is done around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, any place it can sit for two hours or so.
Nothing is started until other faults are ruled out. That involves a scan first: real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a check of the sensor readings, glow plugs and related components.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never shift are freed next, by a cleaning fluid put through the access port on that motor, which spreads inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to need doing twice.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Amotherby; if not, in place where the car stands, with the real-time data checked afterwards.
Both reports come through by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second scan is what confirms the change, puts out the light and lists whatever is still open.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
Cleaning fixes one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- the wrong signal from a temperature sensor
- the EGR valve jammed open
- an AdBlue system problem
- injectors or glow plugs that prevent a regeneration starting at all
- the turbo pushing oil into the filter
Finding that out is the first scan's job. If one of those is the fault, you find out about it at the outset rather than once the money has gone for good.
DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is swapped: the filter you already own is cleared where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it hollowed out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth knowing.
Prices for DPF cleaning around Amotherby
Every visit attracts a call-out charge — getting to you, setting up the booking, carrying out the check and passing on the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.
The figure is settled over the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be truthful. Two separate things change it: what you drive, and where you are — Amotherby itself, out at Swinton, or otherwise out across the YO postcode area.
If the diagnostic rules treatment out, there is not a penny to pay for it. Because the visit, the check and the advice have happened, the call-out charge still holds.
The job comes with a 30-day warranty including aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Amotherby if the light comes back inside that time.
I phoned at short notice and they managed to fit me in the same day. The fix has worked a treat.
First class service. Engineer was excellent. Friendly and informative. He supplied me with an email containing all the readings he had completed. Very impressive. Would use your company again. Well satisfied. Thanks.
Wonderful Ashley came along. and diagnosed a different problem. made me feel very confident in his knowledge, He was extremely polite and just a credit to DPF Fixer.
Where we get to near Amotherby, and what we clean
The one mobile service takes in cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.
Engineers are along High Street week in week out, so Amotherby is rarely a special trip, and the same run picks up Swinton, Broughton and the places out past Appleton-le-Street. It is the schedule, not the distance, that settles whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so ring still from further out across North Yorkshire.

What Amotherby drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- Sometimes, if you catch it in time and the motor has not dropped into limp mode. That requires motorway speed for a long run, rather than a brief trip to Heron Foods.
- Broadly how long does it take?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely clogged filter can require a second clean, which adds to that.
- Cost in Amotherby — what is it?
- Cleaning begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the scan and the advice. The vehicle and your address both shift the number, so we price on the phone.
- Must I be around in person?
- You do not need to stand with it — the vehicle just needs a spot to stand for a couple of hours. Wanting to be there is welcome: the regeneration then runs out on the open road, monitored.
- How soon can someone travel to Amotherby?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the diary. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is available across the YO area.
- Does the filter come away from the car?
- Not on the call-out service — it is cleaned where it stands. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not work we do.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer returning to Amotherby.
