Amatnatua, Highland: Mobile DPF Cleaning
The car sits where it is — call-out DPF cleaning goes to it. No body shop, no filter coming off. A fitter drives out to your place across Amatnatua, clears the diesel particulate filter as it sits, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.
Nobody sets off until the number is fixed on the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
If the light is showing and the motor is down on power, this page is the right one. That is how most drivers arrive here.
The DPF light is on. What now?
It could not be the DPF at all. That is the main thing. Cleaning is not where a visit starts. A scan is — several faults register as the same light.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then makes a difference.
- Worth a go before you book anything: amber light, car driving fine, just one even run, no cost.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has now closed.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under acceleration, is the stage to stop booking long drives and call.
The car has been showing you already
The light is last news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have usually been building for some time:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- you see the revs never reach where they once went
- fuel consumption getting worse
- quietly, the stop/start gives up
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gears
Any one of those, taken alone, is not conclusive. It is a fair bet the filter is full once the light is there too.
The reason diesel particulate filters choke around Amatnatua
Amatnatua is a rural hamlet, and the motoring that goes with one is the poorest type for a DPF. The school run to the local primary school, Baldownie Bridge at a crawl at half past eight, ten minutes to the local shops, the run to Culrain — none of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. The soot collects rather than burning off.
The M90 sits over 50 miles from Amatnatua, Inverness under 50 miles out, and unless something takes you out that way regularly, entire weeks go by without the long unbroken run that empties a DPF. Geography does not help.
Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration
Limp mode is the car looking after itself. With power held down and the revs held, the regeneration the filter requires will not run at all. That counts, because starting one is exactly what a long run does.
So the standard advice to get it up the motorway is good advice, up until the day it is not. In limp mode you are past that point: treatment is what will do it, not more road work.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is done across Amatnatua
Most owners do not expect this part: the filter stays put. The job is done with the DPF yet bolted to the vehicle — on your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the car can sit for a while.
Nothing is touched until other faults are ruled out. That involves a diagnostic first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by actual weight, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated hardware.
Then the clean. A cleaning fluid is fed in through the entry point on that motor and opens out inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never shift. A second pass is sometimes needed on severely blocked filters.
A regeneration comes next, clearing what the clean has lifted. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Amatnatua, with you present, or it runs where the vehicle stands and the real-time data is read afterwards.
Both sets of figures come through by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second scan is what verifies the change, clears the light and logs whatever is still outstanding.
What a DPF clean will not fix
Cleaning answers one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- temperature or pressure sensors reporting a block that is not there
- EGR valves that stick open
- AdBlue system problems
- injectors or glow plugs that prevent a regeneration running at all
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
Finding that out is the first scan's job. Turning out to be one of them means finding out it before work starts, not after paying anything.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no remedy. What gets looked up as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your filter is treated in place and goes back into use.
What DPF cleaning runs to across Amatnatua
A call-out charge holds whatever the outcome, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice offered. The clean itself starts from £299.
The price is agreed by the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be honest. The motor changes it, and so does the address — Amatnatua, Croick, or anywhere farther out in the IV postcode area.
Cleaning that will not help is not treatment you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. What nonetheless applies is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the diagnostic was run and the advice was given.
If the light reappears inside that window, an engineer travels back out to Amatnatua — the work includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
Had plenty of issues with my car. Had a full DPF today on my car. I only called today and got a same day appointment. The gentleman who came out was amazing. I would highly recommend.
The guys diagnosed my problem and gave advice on what next needed to be done. I followed their advice and the car is now running perfectly.
Dan came out on time, did the job perfectly and explained each step of the process clearly to me, along the way; with tips on how to prevent any future DPF cloggages. This is a reliable company, and judging by Dan, with great, reliable technicians! Thanks Dan!
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to around Amatnatua
The filter is cleaned where it sits on all of them: private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.
Amatnatua is rarely a special trip: our engineers are out on Baldownie Bridge most weeks, and the same run picks up Croick, Achnahanat and the places out past Mid Altass. Call anyway from further out around Highland. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the day you are given comes down to the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning around Amatnatua
- Does a long run sort it?
- It can, provided you get it early enough and limp mode has not set in. A long run at motorway speed is what it wants — not ten minutes flat to the local shops and back.
- About how long does it last?
- Plan on typically around 2 hours — heavily blocked filters sometimes require a second pass, which extends it.
- Around Amatnatua, what does it cost?
- Cleaning opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the scan and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why quoting goes by phone.
- Do I have to be around?
- You need not stand with it — the vehicle only wants space to wait for a couple of hours. Choosing to be there is welcome: the regeneration then goes out on the move, monitored.
- Getting to Amatnatua — how soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the diary. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is free across the IV area.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- Done where it sits, on this service, so no. We will not take filters off or fit them back on, in either direction.
- The light comes back — then what?
- An engineer comes back out to Amatnatua — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
