Your DPF light is showing — what next?
Not the DPF, always. First thing to say. A scan happens before the treatment, because that same dash light has plenty of likely faults behind it.
The motoring you do in the meantime counts. That is the other thing.
- A long constant run may even now do it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle runs fine. Costs nothing, so try that before booking.
- That window has gone once the vehicle has fallen into limp mode. A drive will not get there now.
- Get it looked at rather than running it — diesel in the car, or smoke on acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
Before the light, what the car was telling you
Symptoms have usually been growing for some time before the light so much as shows. Last news, in other words:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they used to
- the fuel consumption is poorer
- stop/start without a word packing in
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
That is not proof alone. Next to the light beside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
The cause diesel particulate filters choke round Alvecote
Alvecote is a village, and the motoring that goes with one is the worst type for a DPF. Think about an ordinary week: Garden Village Primary Academy and home again, Robey's Lane at a halt before the hour, a short hop to Co-op Food, a dash to Polesworth. Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no fix. What gets typed in as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your existing filter is cleared in place and goes back into service.
