Mobile DPF Cleaning for Alby, Norfolk
Treating the DPF happens at the motor, not at a workshop. Your motor will not be taken off and the filter will not budge. A technician comes at your place across Alby, clears the diesel particulate filter on the vehicle and runs a DPF regeneration.
Reckon on the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, settled by the phone before anyone leaves.
The light is on already and the car is down on power — that is how we generally meet people, and what this page covers.
Your DPF light is on — what then?
First thing: it is not necessarily the filter. A diagnostic happens before all cleaning, because that same panel light has several likely faults behind it.
How the vehicle is handled in the meantime makes a difference too.
- Amber light, car yet driving fine — a long steady run can even now shift it alone. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you book anything.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, driving will not touch it. The window has shut.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under the throttle — stop arranging long drives and get it seen to.
What the car has been telling you
The light is last news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been mounting for weeks:
- less power, above all pulling uphill
- you find the revs fall short of where they always went
- worse fuel economy
- a stop/start that has quietly bowed out
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
Alone, none of that is proof. Alongside the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is blocked.
Why diesel particulate filters choke near Alby
Alby is a rural hamlet, and the day-to-day driving that comes with one is the worst sort for a DPF. Nothing of it goes on long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to Aldborough Primary School, Alby Common barely moving at the morning rush, ten minutes to Waitrose, the run to Gunton. Instead of clearing, the soot banks up.
Except when you have a regular cause to head out to the M11, over 50 miles from Alby, or over to Norwich under 25 miles away, whole weeks slip past without a long steady stint. Geography is against you.
The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer run
The vehicle is defending itself, which is what limp mode is. A sustained drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode rules out: power limited, revs held down, no regeneration on offer.
The common advice — run it up the motorway — is sensible, up until it is not. The filter requires treatment rather than road work once the car has dropped into limp mode.
Call-out DPF cleaning where the car stands across Alby
Nothing is taken from the vehicle. That surprises people. The DPF remains fixed where it is and the work goes on around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, wherever it can sit for a few hours.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are eliminated. That involves a diagnostic first: live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and associated parts.
A cleaning fluid then goes in through the access point on that motor, spreading inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. A second pass is sometimes needed on badly blocked filters.
Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean freed. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Alby, with you along, or it runs where the vehicle waits and the live data is checked once done.
Finally the check runs again — the change proven, the light put out, anything still showing logged. Both reports reach you by email, so the numbers are kept.
Where a clean is not the answer
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning fixes. It will not touch:
- sensors, pressure, reporting a restriction that is not real
- the EGR valve jammed open
- the AdBlue system failing
- a regeneration that hardly ever runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
Which is why the check happens first. Transpiring to be one of them means hearing it before the work gets going, not after handing over for it.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out will fail its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no remedy. What gets searched for as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your filter is cleared in place and goes back into use.
What DPF cleaning costs around Alby
A call-out charge applies whatever follows, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice given. Treatment itself opens from £299.
The price is fixed by the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be truthful. What you own and where you are both move it: Alby itself, out at Colby, or farther out in the NR postcode area.
Where the check says cleaning will not help, you are not charged for cleaning. What still applies is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the check was carried out and the advice was given.
The work carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Alby if the light returns inside that time.
Really good service. Everything explained clearly. Pointed out some other engine issues to check out which was very helpful. Expensive compared to other companies but with the 28 day warranty I felt happy to pay to get the best service. Couldn't fault the engineer he was excellent.
Arrived at my address and carried out all work needed in a very professional manner, informing me at every stage what he was doing, he respected my property and vehicle all the way through, would highly recommended this employee and this company, kind regards Alan and Susan Rhodes.
Good job. Nat was very professional and thorough. Explained in detail what he had done, and gave me advice for the future. Would use them again (but hope not to need to!).
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to around Alby
One mobile service covers cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is done where it sits rather than taken anywhere.
Our engineers are along Alby Common week in week out, so Alby is hardly ever a special trip, and the same run picks up Colby, Erpingham and the spots out past Alby Hill. Phone anyway from further out across Norfolk. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the day you get depends on the schedule rather than how far away you are.

Questions Alby drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough by itself?
- It might, provided you spot it early and limp mode has not begun. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it takes — not five minutes or so to Waitrose and back.
- Roughly how long does it run?
- Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is heavily clogged.
- Across Alby, what does it run to?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for travelling that covers the check and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both shift the number, so we quote on the phone.
- Must I be present in person?
- A spot for the car to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. The regeneration can be run as a monitored drive if you would sooner be there.
- How soon can someone come to Alby?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is normal. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is open across the NR area.
- Does the filter come off the car?
- Not on the mobile service — it is done where it is. Getting a filter off or bolting one back on come to anything work we do in either direction.
- The light reappears — then what?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Alby.
