Albourne, West Sussex: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Treating the DPF is done at the car, not at a workshop. The technician pulls up at your door over in Albourne and starts. The diesel particulate filter is treated fitted to the car, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.
Allow for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, agreed on the phone before anyone sets off.
The light is already on and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we normally come across people, and what this page covers.
Your DPF light is showing — what next?
Not the filter, always. First thing to get straight. A scan comes before any work, because that same dashboard light has plenty of possible faults behind it.
How the motor is handled in the meantime matters too.
- Amber light, motor still driving as normal — a long constant run can even now sort it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you book anything.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, driving will not shift it. The window has gone.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under the throttle — stop planning long drives and get it looked at.
Before the light, what the car was showing you
The light is last news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have usually been mounting for some time:
- tailing off on power, especially uphill
- the revs no longer climb the way they once did
- worse fuel economy
- the stop/start quietly bowing out
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
None of that is evidence by itself. Alongside the light beside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
What blocks diesel particulate filters round Albourne
Albourne is a village, and the day-to-day driving that belongs to one is the worst type for a DPF. The school run to Albourne Church of England Primary School, Church Lane at a crawl at half past eight, a few minutes to Tesco, the dash to Hassocks — none of it runs long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. Instead of burning off, the unburnt soot builds up.
Save when you have a regular cause to drive out to the M23, under 15 miles from Albourne, or over to Brighton and Hove under 10 miles away, whole weeks go by without a long unbroken run. Geography is unhelpful.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode ends it
Limp mode is the vehicle looking after itself. Output is held down, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter wants can no longer complete — which is the whole catch, because a long drive works by setting off that regeneration.
Getting it up the motorway is the common advice, and it works as far as a point. In limp mode you are past that line: cleaning is what will do it, not more driving.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is treated round Albourne
On your drive, in a work car park, any place the motor can stand for a couple of hours: the job takes place with the filter still fitted on, which is the part most owners do not see coming.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are ruled out. That requires a check first: real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a check of the sensor readings, glow plugs and associated components.
Then the treatment. A cleaning solution goes in through the access point on that vehicle and expands inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. Heavily loaded filters sometimes need a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has lifted. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Albourne, with you there, or it runs where the car stands and the live data is checked once done.
A second diagnostic verifies the change, puts out the warning light and lists anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so you end up with the before and after figures recorded.
What a DPF clean will not cure
One thing is what treatment answers — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- pressure or temperature sensors reporting a block that is not there
- an EGR valve stuck open
- a problem in the AdBlue system
- a regeneration that hardly ever runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
Which is why the check happens first. When it turns out to be one of those, you are told before any work starts rather than after you have handed over a penny.
Cutting the filter out is not a remedy: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the wording people type in, though nothing is swapped — your own filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use. Two more worth knowing.
Prices for DPF cleaning around Albourne
A call-out charge applies whatever follows, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice passed on. The clean itself opens from £299.
Publishing a flat rate would not be straight. We fix it over phone, once the car and its likely needs are clear. The vehicle shifts it, and so does the address — Albourne, Albourne Street, or a spot otherwise out in the BN postcode area.
Treatment that will not do it is not cleaning you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. The call-out charge still holds, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have taken place.
A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the work, and that includes an engineer coming back out to Albourne if the light comes back inside the window.
Andras was excellent in explaining everything he was doing as it took him some time to determine the source of the fault-great patience and persistence. I have no qualms in recommending DPF Fixer. First rate service!
Yes all good at the moment, Dpf cleaned and warning lights off. Engineer was friendly and helpful. Car running well. Thank you for a good service.
Booked late Wednesday and the job done on the Friday. Igor the technical was brilliant. He explained how the cleaning work and gave aftercare guidance too. Slight downside is the cost at £420 a pop.
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to near Albourne
Whatever it is — private car, van, light commercial, heavy goods vehicle, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the very same mobile service stands, and the filter never leaves it.
Engineers are along Church Lane most weeks, so Albourne is seldom a detour, and the same run covers Albourne Street, Albourne Green and the places out past Hurstpierpoint. It is the schedule, not the distance, that settles whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage extends UK-wide — so ring anyway from even further out through West Sussex.

What Albourne drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive clear it?
- It might, provided you get it early and limp mode has not arrived. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it needs — not ten minutes to Tesco and back.
- The visit lasts how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely clogged filter can need a second clean, which adds to that.
- Around Albourne, what does it cost?
- Starting from £299, with a charge for travelling that covers the diagnostic and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why quoting is done by phone.
- Must I be present in person?
- Somewhere for the vehicle to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. The regeneration can be carried out as a supervised drive if you would rather ride along.
- When can someone come to Albourne?
- Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is typical. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the BN area has available.
- Is the filter removed from the motor?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is treated in place. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- What if the light returns?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Albourne.
