# Yazor, Herefordshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Cleaning the DPF happens at the vehicle, not at a body shop.

A fitter comes at your place over in Yazor, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the vehicle, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.

You'll have a figure by phone before anyone goes, the clean starting from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.

The light is on already and the car is down on power — that is how we usually come across people, and precisely what this page covers.

## What to do when the DPF light is on

First thing: it is not always the DPF.

A diagnostic comes before all cleaning, because that same dash light has a number of possible faults behind it.

Second thing: how you drive it between now and then matters.

- Amber light, vehicle even now driving fine — a long constant run can yet shift it by itself. Costs zero, and worth trying before you call anything.

- Once the motor is in limp mode, a long run will not reach it. The window has shut.

- Get it checked rather than using it — diesel in the car, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.

## Signs the vehicle has been sending you

Symptoms have usually been growing for a while before the light ever arrives. Late news, in other words:

- climbing uphill, the power falls off

- an engine whose revs will not pull as they should

- fuel economy going worse

- a stop/start that has silently bowed out

- the interior stinking of diesel, or smoke when you press on

By itself, none of that is conclusive.

With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is full.

## What chokes diesel particulate filters near Yazor

Being a rural hamlet, Yazor generates exactly the driving a DPF handles worst.

Not one bit of it lasts long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to Staunton-on-Wye Endowed Primary School, A480 standing at the morning rush, a few minutes to The Co-operative Food, the hop to Hereford.

Instead of burning away, the soot banks up.

Except when you have a standing cause to head out to the M50, under 25 miles from Yazor, or across to Hereford under 10 miles away, weeks go by without a long unbroken drive. Geography is no help.

## Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out

It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode amounts to.

Output is held down, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter requires can not complete — which is the whole problem, because a sustained drive works by setting off that regeneration.

The usual advice — take it up the motorway — is sensible, right until it is not.

Past that point — limp mode — road work will not manage it, and the filter needs treatment.

## DPF cleaning at the motor in Yazor

The filter does not budge. That is the bit most drivers do not see coming: the job happens with the DPF even now fixed to the motor, on your front, in a work car park, any place the motor can stand for a while.

A diagnostic goes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by weight, and a check of the sensors, glow plugs and related components, so other faults are ruled out before anything is started.

Then the treatment. A cleaning fluid is fed in through the access port on that vehicle and spreads inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move.

Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to take doing twice.

Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean lifted.

Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Yazor, with you present, or it is done where the motor stands and the running data is read once done.

Both sets of figures come through by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second scan is what confirms the change, clears the light and notes whatever is still outstanding.

## The failures a DPF clean cannot cure

Treatment answers one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:

- pressure sensors flagging a restriction that is not there

- a jammed EGR valve

- AdBlue system problems

- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration running whatsoever

- oil coming through the filter from a failing turbo

Finding that out is the first scan's purpose.

You are warned before all work gets going, not after you have settled up, should it turns out to be one of those.

Two more worth noting. Having the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a functioning DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your original filter is cleaned in place and returned into use.

## What DPF cleaning runs to in Yazor

A call-out charge holds whatever the outcome, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice given. The clean itself opens from £299.

Once we have what you own, and about what the filter will need, the figure gets fixed over phone. A single price for every job would not be honest.

What you run and where you are both change it: Yazor itself, out at Foxley, or farther out in the HR postcode area.

A clean that will not help is not a clean you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so.

The call-out charge still holds, because the visit, the check and the advice have been done.

The clean comes with a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Yazor if the light comes back inside that window.

## Vehicles we clean, and where we reach near Yazor

Cars, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery, farm vehicles — the one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.

Most weeks there is by then someone on A480, so Yazor seldom means a journey of its own, and Foxley, Moorhampton and the spots past Mansel Lacy are on the way.

Phone anyway from further out across Herefordshire. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the date you get depends on the schedule rather than how far away you are.

## What Yazor drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive shift it?

Sometimes, if you catch it early and the car has not slipped into limp mode.

That calls for motorway speed for a long run, rather than a brief trip to The Co-operative Food.

How long does the visit run?

It is typically around 2 hours. A badly loaded filter can need a second clean, which adds to that.

What does it run to across Yazor?

Beginning from £299, with a charge for the call-out that pays for the scan and advice on what to do next.

The vehicle and your address both change the number, so we settle it on the phone.

Do I have to be present?

No. The car wants a spot to sit for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it.

If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be run as a supervised drive instead.

Can someone get to Yazor soon?

Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is typical.

Call 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is free across the HR area.

The filter — does it leave the motor?

On the call-out service, no: the filter is cleaned in place.

That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.

The light returns — then what?

An engineer heads back out to Yazor — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
