# The Pound, Gloucestershire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

The motor stays where it is — mobile DPF cleaning goes to it.

An engineer comes at your place across The Pound, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the motor, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.

Budget for the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, settled by the phone before anyone leaves.

Written for the situation most callers are in: the light showing, the car starved for power, and the clean still to fix.

## The DPF light is on. What next?

It could not be the unit in the end. That is the opening thing.

A number of faults put the very same light on the very same panel, which is why a visit starts with a scan rather than with a clean.

How the motor is handled in the meantime makes a difference too.

- A long steady run may still be enough, provided the light is amber and the vehicle goes fine. Costs nothing, so attempt that before booking.

- Once the motor is in limp mode, driving will not shift it. The window has gone.

- Get it looked at rather than running it — diesel in the car, or smoke on acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.

## The motor has been warning you already

By the time the light arrives, things have usually been going wrong for weeks. It is last news:

- power tailing off, particularly going uphill

- an engine whose revs will not pull as before

- fuel use going worse

- quietly, the stop/start packs in

- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell inside

Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof.

With the light, it is a fair bet the filter is loaded.

## Why diesel particulate filters clog near The Pound

For a DPF, the worst driving is the kind you find around a rural hamlet such as The Pound.

The school run to Ann Cam Church of England Primary School, Newent Road at a crawl at half eight, a few minutes to The Co-operative Food, the dash to Ledbury — not one bit of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration.

What should burn away remains.

The M50 stands under a mile from The Pound, Gloucester under 15 miles off, and unless something takes you out that way regularly, full weeks go by without the long steady run that scours a unit. Geography does not help.

## The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer complete

What limp mode amounts to is the motor looking after itself.

A sustained drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode prevents: power capped, revs held down, no regeneration available.

Taking it up the motorway is the standard advice, and it works as far as a line.

The filter wants treatment rather than more driving once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode.

## The vehicle stays put for on-site DPF cleaning across The Pound

The filter does not come off. That is the detail most drivers do not expect: the job happens with the DPF yet bolted to the motor, on your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the motor can stand for a while.

First a check. Running ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a figure, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the related parts — all of it read before anything is started.

Then the cleaning. A cleaning fluid is injected through the entry point on that vehicle and expands inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never shift.

A second pass is sometimes called for on severely blocked filters.

A regeneration is next, burning off what the clean has lifted.

That is a monitored drive out of The Pound if you are present, or a static regeneration where the vehicle sits, with the running data verified once done.

Both reports come through by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second diagnostic is what confirms the change, resets the light and logs whatever is still showing.

## When a DPF clean is not the answer

A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean cures. It will not help:

- pressure or temperature sensors reporting a blockage that is not there

- an EGR valve jammed open

- an AdBlue system failure

- failed glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever completes

- a turbo pushing oil through the filter

Finding that out is the first diagnostic's purpose.

You are told before any work begins, not after you have settled up, where it turns out to be one of those.

A couple more worth bearing in mind. Getting the filter gutted is not a fix — a vehicle without a functioning DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your own filter is cleared in place and sent back into use.

## DPF cleaning costs in The Pound

A call-out charge holds whatever the outcome, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice offered. Treatment itself opens from £299.

The number is agreed over the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be truthful.

The place you are tells as much as what you run: The Pound itself, Shakesfield next door, or farther out in the GL postcode area.

A clean that will not do it is not a clean you pay for, and the scan is what says so.

The call-out charge nonetheless stands, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have been done.

Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer returns to The Pound.

## Vehicles we clean, and where we travel around The Pound

The filter is done in place on all of them: cars and estates, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.

Engineers are along Newent Road nearly every week, so The Pound is hardly ever a detour, and the same run takes in Shakesfield, Tillers Green and the places out past Dymock.

Further out around Gloucestershire is still worth phoning about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that decides between one day and the next.

## The ground around The Pound

The Pound is a small hamlet situated on the riverside in Gloucestershire, with a low elevation of around 38 metres. The Pound lies near several other small settlements, including Dymock and Shakesfield, and is approximately 11 miles from Gloucester. The Pound has a population of around 324 people, living in predominantly detached houses.

## Frequent questions on DPF cleaning in The Pound

Is a long drive enough on its own?

If you spot it in time, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes.

Ten minutes to The Co-operative Food and back will not manage it; motorway speed, kept for some time, will.

The visit runs how long?

That is typically around 2 hours, though a badly clogged filter can require cleaning twice, which runs on.

How much does it cost in The Pound?

The call-out charge pays for the visit, the check and the advice; cleaning itself opens from £299.

Settling it is done by phone, since what you own and where you live both shift the figure.

Have I got to be there?

You need not stand with it — the motor just requires space to wait for a couple of hours.

The regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive if you would prefer to ride along.

How soon can someone travel to The Pound?

Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is normal.

Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is open across the GL area.

Will the filter be taken off?

It is treated where it is, on the mobile service.

Nor does lifting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.

The light comes back — then what?

The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer coming back to The Pound.
