# Stone, South Yorkshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the vehicle.

The fitter turns up at your door across Stone and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned still on the car, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.

Allow for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, agreed on the phone before anyone travels.

The light is showing and the motor is low on power — that is how we generally find people, and what this page deals with.

## The DPF light is on. What then?

Not the filter, necessarily. Main thing to get straight.

Cleaning is not where a visit opens. A scan is — a number of faults appear as the same signal.

The motoring you do in the meantime counts. That is the second thing.

- Worth a go before you ring anything: amber light, car driving fine, just one even run, no charge.

- Vehicle already gone into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not touch it now.

- Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration — stop planning long drives and get it looked at.

## What the vehicle has been showing you

By the time the light appears, things have usually been slipping for a while. It is belated news:

- power falling off, particularly pulling uphill

- you notice the revs stop short of where they always went

- fuel use that is worse than it used to be

- a stop/start that has silently packed in

- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gears

None of that is proof alone.

Alongside the light, it is a fair guess the filter is full.

## Choked diesel particulate filters around Stone, and the reason

The motoring that comes with a rural hamlet like Stone is the poorest kind for a DPF.

The school run to St Mary's Catholic Primary School (Maltby), King's Wood Lane at a halt at half eight, five minutes to Aldi, the hop to Kiveton Park — nothing of it lasts long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration.

What should burn off stays put.

Where you sit does not help either. The M18 is under 5 miles from Stone and Doncaster is under 10 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way regularly, weeks go by without the sustained run that could empty the filter on its own.

## DPF regeneration, and the point limp mode stops it

What limp mode amounts to is the motor looking after itself.

With output limited and the revs held, the regeneration the filter requires will not run at all. That matters, because setting off one is just what a long run does.

The common advice — run it up the motorway — is sound, right until it is not.

Once the motor is in limp mode you are the far side of that point, and the filter requires treatment rather than driving.

## Mobile DPF cleaning where the motor stands in Stone

Most drivers do not expect this bit: the filter stays put. The job is done with the DPF yet fitted to the motor — on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the car can wait for a while.

First a diagnostic. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a figure, the sensors, the glow plugs, the related parts — all of it taken before a thing is cleaned.

Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never shift are freed after that, by a cleaning solution fed through the entry point on that car, which spreads inside the filter.

Where the filter is badly loaded, plan on a second pass.

What the clean has loosened is then burned off by a regeneration.

Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Stone, with you there, or it runs where the car stands and the running data is read afterwards.

Both read-outs are sent by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second scan is what proves the change, resets the light and logs whatever is still open.

## Where treatment is not the solution

Only one fault is fixed by treatment: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does no good for:

- a pressure sensor flagging a restriction that is not there

- the EGR valve jammed open

- the AdBlue system failing

- a regeneration that simply never starts, because of glow plugs or injectors

- oil working through the filter from a faulty turbo

Which is why the check goes first.

Transpiring to be one of them means hearing it before the work starts, not after handing over a penny.

Two more worth noting. Getting the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your original filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use.

## Prices for DPF cleaning across Stone

Treatment opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.

Once we know what you drive, and roughly what the filter will take, the number gets fixed on the phone. A single price for everyone would not be truthful.

The car shifts it, and so does the location — Stone, Firbeck, or somewhere further out in the S postcode area.

Cleaning that will not work is not cleaning you pay for, and the check is what says so.

Because the visit, the check and the advice have been done, the call-out charge nonetheless stands.

A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the work, and that includes an engineer coming back out to Stone if the light reappears inside the period.

## What we clean, and how far we travel near Stone

The one mobile service spans cars and estates, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is done where it sits rather than moved anywhere.

The same run that keeps engineers on King's Wood Lane most weeks covers Stone, Firbeck, Maltby and the spots beyond Letwell.

Even further out across South Yorkshire is even so worth ringing about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that decides between today and tomorrow.

## Common questions on DPF cleaning around Stone

Is a long drive enough alone?

Sometimes, if you catch it early and the vehicle has not fallen into limp mode.

It wants a sustained run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes or so to Aldi and back.

Does the visit last long?

It is typically around 2 hours. A badly clogged filter can require a second clean, which extends that.

How much does it cost around Stone?

It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the scan and the advice.

Pricing is done by phone, since what you drive and where you sit both change the price.

Have I got to be present?

You do not need to stand with it — the car simply needs a spot to stand for a couple of hours.

If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be done as a watched drive instead.

Travelling to Stone — how soon?

That comes down to the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day.

Ask 0303 330 1830 what is available across the S area.

Is the filter taken off the car?

On the on-site service, no: the filter is done in place.

We never take filters off or bolt them back on, whichever way.

The light comes back — then what?

Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Stone.
