# Shootash, Hampshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Cleaning the DPF is done at the motor, not at a garage.

The engineer turns up at your door across Shootash and starts. The diesel particulate filter is cleared on the motor, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you keep the filter you arrived with.

The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the price is agreed by the phone before anyone travels.

The light is already on and the motor is short of power — that is how we usually come across people, and roughly what this page is about.

## The DPF light is on. What now?

First thing: it is not automatically the filter.

That light can follow plenty of faults, not only one, so the visit starts with a diagnostic and not with a clean.

How the vehicle is run in the meantime makes a difference too.

- Amber light, vehicle yet driving normally — a long steady run can even now clear it on its own. Costs zero, and worth trying before you call anything.

- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has already gone.

- Get it seen to rather than driving it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.

## Before the light, what the vehicle was telling you

Symptoms have generally been growing for a while before the light so much as appears. Late news, in other words:

- dropping away on power, above all uphill

- revs that will not pull the way they always did

- the fuel consumption is worse

- silently, the stop/start gives up

- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under acceleration

That is not evidence on its own.

The light alongside them suggests a loaded filter.

## Choked diesel particulate filters around Shootash, and the reason

Being a village, Shootash produces just the driving a DPF handles the poorest.

The school run to Awbridge Primary School, Danes Road at a crawl at half past eight, five minutes to Waitrose, the run to Mottisfont & Dunbridge — nothing of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration.

The soot builds up rather than burning away.

Unless you have a routine reason to get out to the M27, under 5 miles from Shootash, or over to Southampton under 10 miles away, entire weeks go by without a long unbroken drive. Geography is against you.

## Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops

Limp mode is the car protecting itself.

The whole problem is that a proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not climb and power is held down.

Running it up the motorway is the standard advice, and it stands up to a point.

Once the car is in limp mode you are past that stage, and the filter requires a clean rather than more driving.

## Mobile DPF cleaning where the car stands round Shootash

Most owners do not expect this detail: the filter stays on. The job happens with the DPF even now fitted to the vehicle — on your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can stand for a couple of hours.

Nothing is cleaned until other faults are eliminated. That means a check first: live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a check of the sensor readings, glow plugs and associated parts.

Then comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the car's own access port, opening out inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration cannot.

Where the filter is badly loaded, allow for a second pass.

What the clean has freed is then driven off by a regeneration.

Come with the vehicle and it is done as a monitored drive out of Shootash. Park it and the regeneration is done on the spot, with real-time data verified once it is done.

Then a second check, verifying the change, resetting the warning light and noting anything still logged. Both sets of figures are sent over, so the before and after figures are kept.

## Where a clean is not the fix

Only one fault is answered by a clean: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does little for:

- sensors, pressure, showing a restriction that is not real

- the EGR valve held open

- an AdBlue system problem

- injectors or glow plugs that prevent a regeneration completing whatsoever

- the turbo passing oil into the filter

The first diagnostic is there for exactly that.

When it proves to be one of those, you are let know before any work gets going rather than after you have paid a penny.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out will fail its MOT, and driving it is against the law, so that is no fix. What gets searched for as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your existing filter is cleaned in place and goes back into service.

## Costs for DPF cleaning around Shootash

Any visit carries a call-out charge — getting to you, making the booking, running the diagnostic and offering the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.

Once we know what you own, and roughly what the filter will need, the price gets settled on the phone. A single price for everyone would not be honest.

What you drive and where you are both move it: Shootash itself, across at Lower Ratley, or further out within the SO postcode area.

If the diagnostic rules a clean out, there is nothing to pay for it.

You nonetheless pay that charge: someone turned up, ran the scan and offered you the advice.

Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer heads back to Shootash.

## What we clean, and how far we travel near Shootash

The filter is done on the vehicle on all of them: cars and estates, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.

The same round that keeps engineers on Danes Road most weeks covers Shootash, Lower Ratley, Upper Ratley and the spots beyond Newtown.

Further out around Hampshire is still worth phoning about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that picks between today and tomorrow.

## Questions Shootash drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run shift it?

It might, provided you catch it early and limp mode has not arrived.

Ten minutes to Waitrose and back will not manage it; motorway speed, held for a while, will.

How long does the visit run?

Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is badly loaded.

How much does it run to in Shootash?

Cleaning opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the check and the advice.

Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why pricing goes by phone.

Have I need to be around?

The car needs a spot for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it.

If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be done as a monitored drive instead.

Getting to Shootash — how soon?

You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the calendar.

One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the SO area has available.

Does the filter leave the car?

Done where it stands, on this service, so no.

Getting a filter off or fitting one back on amount to anything something we do whichever way.

The light returns — then what?

Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Shootash.
