# Rock, Devon: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Mobile DPF cleaning goes to the motor.

No garage, no filter going anywhere. A fitter travels to your door in Rock, cleans the diesel particulate filter as it sits, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.

You'll have a figure by phone before anyone leaves, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.

If the light is on already and the car is low on power, this page is for you. That is how most owners arrive here.

## The DPF light is on. What now?

Not the unit, always. Opening thing to note.

Treatment is not where a visit begins. A check is — a number of faults register as the same signal.

It counts what you do with the motor between now and the visit.

- Amber light, vehicle still driving fine — a long even run can still sort it alone. Costs nothing at all, and worth a try before you ring anything.

- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has now closed.

- Stop arranging long drives and get it seen to if the car stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.

## What the car has been warning you

By the time the light arrives, things have generally been slipping for a while. It is late news:

- tailing off on power, above all uphill

- the revs no longer climb the way they always did

- the fuel economy is worse

- a stop/start that has quietly packed in

- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car

On its own, none of that is proof.

Next to the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is full.

## What chokes diesel particulate filters near Rock

For a DPF, the worst driving is the sort you find around a rural hamlet such as Rock.

A regeneration wants time and heat, and sees not much: not on the school run to Membury Primary Academy, not on Bakers Lane at half eight, not on ten minutes to Tesco, and not on the hop to Axminster.

The unburnt soot collects rather than burning away.

Except when you have a routine cause to drive out to the M5, under 15 miles from Rock, or out to Exeter under 25 miles away, whole weeks slip past without a sustained run. Geography is no help.

## The point a DPF regeneration can no longer complete

It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode is.

With pulling power capped and the revs held, the regeneration the filter needs will not happen at all. That matters, because starting one is exactly what a motorway run does.

The usual advice — take it up the motorway — is good, until it is not.

Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are the far side of that stage, and the filter requires treatment rather than road work.

## On-site DPF cleaning where the motor stands round Rock

On your drive, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can sit for a few hours: the job takes place with the filter even now bolted on, which is the bit most people do not see coming.

Nothing is cleaned until other faults are eliminated. That means a scan first: running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensor readings, glow plugs and related hardware.

Then the treatment. A cleaning solution goes in through the access point on that motor and expands inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move.

Where the filter is badly blocked, plan on a second pass.

A regeneration is next, burning off what the clean has lifted.

Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Rock, with you there, or it is done where the car waits and the running data is verified after.

A second scan proves the change, clears the warning light and lists anything still open. Both sets of figures are emailed, so you keep the before and after figures on record.

## The faults a DPF clean cannot fix

A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean cures. It will not touch:

- a temperature or pressure sensor reporting a restriction that is not there

- the EGR valve held open

- an AdBlue system fault

- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration running whatsoever

- oil coming through the filter from a worn turbo

Which is why the diagnostic comes first.

Turning out to be one of them means finding out it before work starts, not after paying a penny.

Cutting the filter out is not a fix: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the wording people look up, though nothing is exchanged — your existing filter is cleared in place and sent back into use. Two more worth knowing.

## The price for DPF cleaning in Rock

Any visit carries a call-out charge — travelling to you, setting up the booking, doing the scan and offering the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.

No single flat rate would be straight, so the figure is agreed over the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need.

Two things shift it: what you drive, and where you are — Rock itself, out at Twist, or farther out within the EX postcode area.

A clean that will not do it is not treatment you pay for, and the scan is what says so.

The call-out charge still applies, because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened.

Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer returns to Rock.

## Where we travel round Rock, and what we clean

A single mobile service takes in cars and estates, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.

Technicians are along Bakers Lane nearly every week, so Rock is rarely a detour, and the same run takes in Twist, Smallridge and the villages out past Membury.

Coverage is UK-wide, so further out through Devon is still worth a ring, and what settles between today and tomorrow is the calendar rather than the distance.

## Questions Rock drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough on its own?

Sometimes, if you catch it early enough and the car has not slipped into limp mode.

That requires motorway speed for a long run, rather than a brief trip to Tesco.

How long does the visit last?

That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily loaded filter can need cleaning twice, which adds time.

Across Rock, what does it cost?

It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the check and the advice.

Settling it is done by phone, since what you drive and where you are both shift the number.

Have I have to be around?

No. The motor requires a spot to wait for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it.

The regeneration can be done as a monitored drive if you would sooner be there.

When can someone get to Rock?

You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the diary.

Ask 0303 330 1830 what is open across the EX area.

Will the filter be lifted off?

It is treated where it stands, on the mobile service.

Getting a filter off or fitting one back on count as anything work we do in either direction.

The light comes back — then what?

Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer returning to Rock.
