# Mobile DPF Cleaning for Pitcox, East Lothian

With on-site DPF cleaning, we travel to the vehicle.

A fitter turns up at your place across Pitcox, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the car, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.

Budget for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, fixed over the phone before anyone travels.

If the light is already on and the motor is low on power, this page is yours. That is how most owners end up here.

## The DPF light is on. What now?

First thing: it is not automatically the DPF.

That light can arise from several faults, not only one, so the visit opens with a scan and not with a clean.

Second thing: how you run it between now and then makes a difference.

- Vehicle even now driving as normal on an amber light — attempt a long steady run first. It costs nothing at all and often sorts the filter without a visit.

- A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has already shut.

- Get it seen to rather than running it — diesel in the car, or smoke on the throttle, has gone past the long-run stage.

## Signs the car has been showing you

The light is belated news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have normally been growing for some time:

- power tailing off, particularly pulling uphill

- the revs no longer climb the way they once did

- worse fuel consumption

- stop/start without a word giving up

- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell inside

That is not proof on its own.

Alongside the light, it is a fair bet the filter is loaded.

## The reason diesel particulate filters choke round Pitcox

For a DPF, the poorest driving is the sort you meet in a rural hamlet such as Pitcox.

None of it runs long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to the local primary school, B6370 standing at half past eight, a few minutes to Asda, the hop to Dunbar.

Instead of burning off, the soot load collects.

Except when you have a standing need to get out to the M8, under 50 miles from Pitcox, or out to Edinburgh under 25 miles away, entire weeks slip past without a sustained stint. Geography is against you.

## Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration

It is self-protection: that is all limp mode is.

A sustained drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode prevents: power capped, revs kept low, no regeneration possible.

Good advice, that motorway run — up until the day it is not.

The far side of that point — limp mode — road work will not manage it, and the filter needs a clean.

## Where the car stands is where the DPF is treated across Pitcox

Nothing is taken from the motor. That catches out people. The DPF stays fitted where it is and the work happens around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, any place it can sit for a few hours.

First a diagnostic. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a weight, the sensors, the glow plugs, the related parts — all of it logged before a thing is started.

Then the treatment. A cleaning solution is fed in through the access port on that vehicle and expands inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never budge.

Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to take doing twice.

Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has loosened.

If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Pitcox; if not, on the spot where the car waits, with the running data read after.

Both sets of figures are sent by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second check is what confirms the change, resets the light and lists whatever is still open.

## Where treatment is not the answer

One thing is what treatment answers — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:

- the wrong signal from a pressure or temperature sensor

- the EGR valve stuck open

- AdBlue system problems

- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration running whatsoever

- turbo problems, with oil reaching the filter

The first diagnostic is there for just that.

You are let know before the work gets going, not after you have paid, should it turns out to be one of those.

DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is swapped: the filter you already own is treated where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it hollowed out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth noting.

## DPF cleaning prices around Pitcox

A call-out charge applies whatever happens, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice passed on. Treatment itself starts from £299.

Quoting a flat rate would not be truthful. We settle it by phone, once the vehicle and its expected needs are clear.

Two separate things change it: what you own, and where you are — Pitcox itself, over at West Barns, or further out across the EH postcode area.

Where the scan says treatment will not do it, you are not billed for a clean.

Because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have happened, the call-out charge nonetheless stands.

Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer returns to Pitcox.

## The vehicles we clean and the ground we reach near Pitcox

Whatever it is — estate, light van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, farm vehicle — the very same call-out service applies, and the filter never quits it.

The same trip that puts our engineers on B6370 most weeks covers Pitcox, West Barns, Bielside and the villages beyond Stenton.

Farther out across East Lothian is nonetheless worth ringing about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that decides between this day and the next.

## Pitcox itself

Pitcox is a small coastal hamlet in East Lothian, situated near the towns of Stenton and Spott, with West Barns also nearby. Pitcox sits at an elevation of around 80 metres, overlooking the coastal landscape. Pitcox has a population of approximately 120 people, living in predominantly detached housing. Pitcox is located about 23 miles from Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city.

## Things Pitcox drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Can I just take it for a long drive?

Soon enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes.

Five minutes to Asda and back will not do it; motorway speed, kept for some time, will.

How long does the visit last?

It is typically around 2 hours. A severely blocked filter can take a second clean, which adds to that.

What does it cost around Pitcox?

The call-out charge pays for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; treatment itself begins from £299.

Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why quoting goes by phone.

Have I have to be there?

Nobody expects you to stand with it — the motor just needs a spot to sit for a couple of hours.

The regeneration can be carried out as a monitored drive if you would prefer to be there.

Can someone come to Pitcox soon?

Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is normal.

Call 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is open across the EH area.

Is the filter lifted off the vehicle?

Not on the on-site service — it is treated where it stands.

And neither does lifting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.

And if the light reappears?

The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Pitcox.
