# Parrog, Pembrokeshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

The motor remains in place — mobile DPF cleaning travels to it.

An engineer comes at your place over in Parrog, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the vehicle, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.

You'll be given a number by phone before anyone goes, the clean starting from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.

The light is already on and the motor is low on power — that is how we normally meet people, and precisely what this page deals with.

## The DPF light is on. What next?

Not the DPF, always. Opening thing to get straight.

A diagnostic happens before any cleaning, because that same dashboard light has several likely faults behind it.

How the motor is driven in the meantime makes a difference too.

- A long constant run may still be enough, provided the light is amber and the vehicle runs normally. Costs nothing, so attempt that before ringing.

- Once the vehicle is in limp mode, driving will not reach it. The window has gone.

- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under acceleration, is the moment to stop arranging long drives and call.

## The car has been telling you already

Symptoms have normally been building for weeks before the light even arrives. Late news, in other words:

- power tailing off, above all going uphill

- you notice the revs stop short of where they once went

- consumption that is worse than it used to be

- quietly, the stop/start bows out

- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in there

That is not conclusive on its own.

It is a fair assumption the filter is full once the light is on as well.

## The explanation diesel particulate filters block around Parrog

For a DPF, the least kind driving is the kind you get around a residential suburb such as Parrog.

The school run to the local primary school, Feidr Brenin at a halt at the morning rush, five minutes to Spar, the run to Fishguard Harbour — not one bit of it lasts long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration.

Soot that should clear banks up instead.

Where you sit does not oblige either. The M4 is under 50 miles from Parrog and St Davids is under 25 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way routinely, entire weeks go by without the long unbroken run that would scour the filter on its own.

## The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer run

What limp mode means is the vehicle defending itself.

Power is capped, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter requires can not complete — which is the real problem, because a long drive works by starting that regeneration.

So the usual advice to get it up the motorway is good advice, until it is not.

Once the motor is in limp mode you are past that point, and the filter wants treatment rather than road work.

## Where the car stands is where the DPF is cleaned across Parrog

The filter does not come off. That is the part most owners do not see coming: the job takes place with the DPF still fixed to the car, on your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the car can wait for a couple of hours.

Nothing is touched until other faults are eliminated. That means a diagnostic first: live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and associated hardware.

Then comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the vehicle's own access port, opening out inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration never can.

Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to require doing twice.

Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean loosened.

If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Parrog; if not, in place where the vehicle stands, with the real-time data checked once done.

Then a second diagnostic, verifying the change, clearing the warning light and logging anything still showing. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are recorded.

## The problems a DPF clean cannot cure

Only one fault is cured by a clean: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does little for:

- a pressure sensor reporting a blockage that is not there

- an EGR valve jammed open

- the AdBlue system playing up

- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration starting whatsoever

- a turbo passing oil through the filter

Finding that out is the first diagnostic's whole job.

Transpiring to be one of them means learning it before the work starts, not after paying for it.

DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is replaced: the filter you own is cleared where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it gutted a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth knowing.

## DPF cleaning charges in Parrog

Each visit attracts a call-out charge — getting to you, making the booking, doing the check and offering the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.

Naming a flat rate would not be straight. We fix it by phone, once the vehicle and its expected needs are established.

The car changes it, and so does the postcode — Parrog, Cippin Stone, or somewhere otherwise out in the SA postcode area.

Where the scan says cleaning will not do it, you are not billed for treatment.

You even so pay that charge: someone travelled, ran the diagnostic and gave you the advice.

If the light reappears inside that time, an engineer comes back out to Parrog — the clean includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.

## The vehicles we clean and the ground we cover near Parrog

The filter is treated on the vehicle on all of them: cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is moved anywhere.

The same round that keeps our engineers on Feidr Brenin most weeks takes in Parrog, Cippin Stone, Nevern and the places beyond Dinas Cross.

Phone anyway from even further out across Pembrokeshire. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the date you are offered depends on the diary rather than how far away you are.

## A line on Parrog

Parrog is a small coastal suburban area in Pembrokeshire, situated near the town of Newport and the historic site of Cippin Stone. Parrog sits at a low elevation of around 21 metres, overlooking the coastline of Wales. Parrog is characterised by its predominantly detached housing stock, reflecting its residential nature. Parrog is located approximately 20 miles from the city of St Davids, and about 205 miles from London.

## Things Parrog drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive sort it?

If you catch it in time, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes.

That calls for motorway speed for a sustained stretch, rather than a short trip to Spar.

The visit runs how long?

Allow typically around 2 hours — badly blocked filters sometimes take a second pass, which extends it.

In Parrog, what does it cost?

Opening from £299, with a charge for travelling that pays for the diagnostic and advice on what to do next.

Pricing is done by phone, since what you own and where you are both change the number.

Do I have to be there?

Space for the motor to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you.

If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be run as a watched drive instead.

Can someone travel to Parrog soon?

It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the diary.

Call 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is free across the SA area.

Is the filter lifted off the motor?

It is cleaned where it is, on the call-out service.

That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.

And if the light returns?

Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Parrog.
