# Marshes, Newport: Mobile DPF Cleaning

The car stays put — on-site DPF cleaning travels to it.

A technician turns up at your address over in Marshes, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the car, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.

Nobody sets off until the price is settled over the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.

If the light is already on and the car is down on power, this page is yours. That is how most people get to us.

## Your DPF light is on — what then?

First thing: it is not necessarily the unit.

A diagnostic comes before any treatment, because that same panel light has several possible faults behind it.

It tells what you get with the car between now and the visit.

- Car still driving normally on an amber light — try a long constant run first. It costs zero and often sorts the filter without help.

- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has now shut.

- Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop booking long drives and get it checked.

## What the motor has been showing you

The light is belated news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been mounting for a while:

- less power, above all going uphill

- revs that will not pull the way they used to

- worse fuel consumption

- a stop/start that has quietly packed in

- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under hard acceleration

That is not conclusive by itself.

The light with them points at a full filter.

## Why diesel particulate filters choke around Marshes

For a DPF, the poorest motoring is the kind you find around a residential suburb such as Marshes.

The school run to the local primary school, Wyndham Street at a halt at half eight, a few minutes to M&S Foodhall, the hop to Newport (South Wales) — not one bit of it runs long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration.

Soot that should burn off collects instead.

Neither is far from Marshes: under a mile to the M4, under a mile to Newport. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the drive that would scour a filter never comes.

## DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode stops it

What limp mode comes down to is the motor defending itself.

A proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode prevents: power capped, revs pinned, no regeneration available.

So the common advice to run it up the motorway is sound advice, right until the day it is not.

Once the motor is in limp mode you are past that stage, and the filter requires a clean rather than driving.

## On-site DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands round Marshes

Most owners do not anticipate this part: the filter remains. The job happens with the DPF still bolted to the motor — on your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the motor can wait for a couple of hours.

First a diagnostic. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a figure, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the connected hardware — all of it logged before any of it is cleaned.

Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never budge are freed next, by a cleaning solution passed through the entry point on that car, which opens out inside the filter.

Where the filter is badly loaded, expect a second pass.

Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean lifted.

Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Marshes, with you there, or it is done where the vehicle sits and the live data is checked once done.

Then a second scan, confirming the change, putting out the warning light and listing anything still showing. Both read-outs are emailed over, so the before and after figures are on record.

## What a DPF clean will not fix

Only one fault is answered by a clean: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does no good for:

- the wrong reading from a pressure or temperature sensor

- an EGR valve jammed open

- the AdBlue system failing

- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration running in the first place

- the turbo passing oil into the filter

Finding that out is the first check's job.

You are warned before all work gets going, not after you have paid, if it turns out to be one of those.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no solution. What gets typed in as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your existing filter is cleared in place and goes back into work.

## What DPF cleaning comes to around Marshes

The cleaning starts from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that follows.

No single flat rate would be straight, so the number is fixed over the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need.

Two separate things shift it: what you drive, and where you are — Marshes itself, across at Crindau, or otherwise out in the NP postcode area.

Treatment that will not do it is not treatment you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so.

The call-out charge even so applies, because the visit, the check and the advice have happened.

A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer travelling back out to Marshes if the light reappears inside the window.

## What we clean, and how far we travel near Marshes

Whatever it is — private car, light van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, farm vehicle — the same mobile service stands, and the filter never quits it.

Our engineers are along Wyndham Street most weeks, so Marshes is rarely a special trip, and the same run picks up Crindau, Newport and the spots out past Ponthir.

It is the schedule, not the distance, that settles whether it is one day or the next, and coverage extends UK-wide — so ring still from further out through Newport.

## The area around Marshes

Marshes is a suburban area located on the coast of Wales, near the city of Newport. Marshes sits at a low elevation of around 10 metres, with terraced housing being the predominant type of accommodation. Marshes is close to nearby places such as Crindau and Gold Tops, and is part of the wider Newport urban area.

## What Marshes drivers want to know about DPF cleaning

Does a long run shift it?

If you get it early enough, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes.

Fifteen minutes to M&S Foodhall and back will not manage it; motorway speed, sustained for a while, will.

How long does the visit take?

Plan on typically around 2 hours — severely blocked filters sometimes take a second pass, which adds to it.

How much does it run to across Marshes?

Starting from £299, with a charge for travelling that pays for the diagnostic and advice on what to do next.

Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why quoting is done by phone.

Have I got to be there?

You need not stand with it — the vehicle just needs a spot to wait for a couple of hours.

If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be run as a watched drive instead.

When can someone come to Marshes?

That depends on the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day.

Phone 0303 330 1830 what is free across the NP area.

Will the filter be lifted off?

On the on-site service, no: the filter is cleaned in place.

That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.

The light reappears — then what?

The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Marshes.
