# Guscott, Devon: Mobile DPF Cleaning

With on-site DPF cleaning, we come to the car.

No body shop, no filter going anywhere. A fitter drives out to your door across Guscott, treats the diesel particulate filter as it sits, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.

You'll know a number by phone before anyone leaves, the clean starting from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.

The light is on already and the vehicle is down on power — that is how we usually find people, and what this page covers.

## Your DPF light is lit — what next?

First thing: it is not necessarily the filter.

A clean is not where a visit begins. A diagnostic is — plenty of faults register as the same light.

The driving you manage in the meantime tells. That is the other thing.

- Car yet driving normally on an amber light — attempt a long steady run first. It costs nothing and often shifts the filter without a visit.

- That window has shut once the car has fallen into limp mode. Motoring will not help now.

- Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under the throttle — stop planning long drives and get it looked at.

## Before the light, what the car was telling you

Belated news, the light. The symptoms usually mount for a while before it arrives:

- tailing off on power, especially uphill

- the revs no longer climb the way they always did

- consumption that is worse than it was

- stop/start without a word giving up

- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox

That is not conclusive alone.

The light beside them suggests a full filter.

## Blocked diesel particulate filters round Guscott, and the why

Guscott is a rural hamlet, and the motoring that comes with one is the least kind kind for a DPF.

Not one bit of it lasts long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration: the school run to Horwood and Newton Tracey Community Primary School, Forde Lane standing at half past eight, a few minutes to Lidl, the dash to Chapleton.

The soot load banks up rather than burning away.

Unless you have a routine reason to get out to the M5, under 50 miles from Guscott, or out to Exeter under 50 miles away, weeks slip past without a long unbroken run. Geography is against you.

## Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration

The motor is protecting itself, which is what limp mode is.

The entire catch is that a long drive works by triggering a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not rise and power is held down.

Good advice, that motorway run — right up until the point it is not.

The far side of that line — limp mode — more driving will not do it, and the filter requires treatment.

## DPF cleaning at the motor round Guscott

Nothing leaves the car. That throws people. The DPF sits fixed where it is and the work happens around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, anywhere it can stand for a couple of hours.

First a check. Running ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a weight, the sensors, the glow plugs, the related hardware — all of it logged before a thing is cleaned.

Then the cleaning. A cleaning fluid is injected through the access port on that motor and expands inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never budge.

Where the filter is severely blocked, allow for a second pass.

Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean lifted.

That is a monitored drive out of Guscott if you are there, or a static regeneration where the car stands, with the live data checked once done.

Then a second scan, confirming the change, resetting the warning light and listing anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are emailed over, so the before and after figures are on record.

## Where a clean is not the answer

Only one fault is answered by cleaning: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does little for:

- temperature or pressure sensors showing a block that is not there

- the EGR valve held open

- an AdBlue system problem

- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration running in the first place

- turbo trouble, with oil reaching the filter

Which is why the check comes first.

If it proves to be one of those, you are warned before any work gets going rather than after you have paid anything.

Cutting the filter out is not a remedy: without a working DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the term people type in, though nothing is replaced — your original filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use. Two more worth knowing.

## What DPF cleaning costs in Guscott

Every visit attracts a call-out charge — travelling to you, making the booking, carrying out the scan and offering the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.

The figure is settled over the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be truthful.

Whereabouts you are matters as much as what you own: Guscott itself, Haddacott next door, or further out across the EX postcode area.

Treatment that will not do it is not a clean you pay for, and the check is what says so.

The call-out charge even so holds, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have happened.

The work includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Guscott if the light comes back inside that window.

## What we clean, and how far we go round Guscott

Private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, agricultural vehicles — a single on-site service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done where it sits rather than carried anywhere.

Guscott is hardly ever a special trip: engineers are along Forde Lane week in week out, and the same run takes in Haddacott, Gammaton Moor and the places out past Horwood.

It is the calendar, not the distance, that settles whether it is one day or the next, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so phone anyway from further out around Devon.

## A line on Guscott

Guscott is a small hamlet in inland Devon, situated approximately 100 metres above sea level. Guscott lies near the settlements of Huntshaw Water, Haddacott, and Huntshaw, and is about 32 miles from the city of Exeter. Guscott has a population of around 141 people, predominantly living in detached houses.

## Things Guscott drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive sort it?

Early enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes.

A sustained run at motorway speed is what it needs — not ten minutes flat to Lidl and back.

Does the visit last long?

It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily clogged filter can need a second clean, which extends that.

What does it run to across Guscott?

Starting from £299, with a charge for travelling that takes in the scan and advice on what to do next.

The vehicle and your address both move the figure, so we settle it on the phone.

Have I need to be around?

You do not need to stand with it — the car simply wants space to wait for a couple of hours.

The regeneration can be done as a watched drive if you would sooner ride along.

When can someone come to Guscott?

That depends on the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day.

Call 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is open across the EX area.

Is the filter taken off the car?

Not on the mobile service — it is cleaned where it sits.

Taking a filter off or fitting one back on count as anything work we do in either direction.

What if the light comes back?

Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Guscott.
