# Mobile DPF Cleaning across Grade, Cornwall

Treating the DPF is done at the motor, not at a body shop.

A technician turns up at your address over in Grade, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the vehicle, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.

The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the number is settled by the phone before anyone leaves.

If the light is on already and the vehicle is short of power, this page is yours. That is how most drivers get to us.

## DPF light on? What happens next

The DPF is not necessarily what is to blame, and that leads.

That light can arise from a number of faults, not only one, so the visit starts with a scan and not with a clean.

Second thing: how you run it between now and then matters.

- Amber light, car yet driving fine — a long steady run can even now sort it alone. Costs nothing at all, and worth a try before you book anything.

- A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has by then shut.

- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under the throttle — stop planning long drives and get it seen to.

## Before the light, what the car was showing you

The light is late news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have generally been building for some time:

- pulling uphill, the power tails off

- the revs no longer climb the way they always did

- the fuel use is down

- stop/start silently packing in

- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gears

Any one of those, taken by itself, is not proof.

Alongside the light, it is a fair guess the filter is loaded.

## The reason diesel particulate filters clog round Grade

Grade is a coastal area, and the day-to-day driving that belongs to one is the least kind sort for a DPF.

The school run to Grade-Ruan CofE Primary School, Prazegooth Lane at a crawl at the morning rush, ten minutes to Co-op Food, the hop to the nearest station — nothing of it goes on long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration.

Unburnt soot that should burn off collects instead.

The map does not oblige either. The M5 is over 50 miles from Grade and Truro is under 25 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way regularly, weeks pass without the sustained run that would empty the filter by itself.

## Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration

The vehicle is protecting itself, which is what limp mode is.

With pulling power capped and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter requires can never happen at all. That matters, because setting off one is just what a long run does.

Getting it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it holds right up to a line.

In limp mode you are beyond that line: a clean is what will help, not more road work.

## The vehicle stays in place for mobile DPF cleaning round Grade

Nothing is taken from the vehicle. That surprises people. The DPF sits fixed where it is and the work happens around it, on a drive, in a works car park, anywhere it can stand for two hours or so.

The ECU is read first, reporting soot load by percent and by weight, along with a check of sensors, glow plugs and associated parts, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still possible.

A solution next goes in through the access port on that car, expanding inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move.

A second pass is sometimes called for on heavily loaded filters.

Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean loosened.

If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Grade; if not, statically where the car waits, with the running data checked afterwards.

Both sets of figures go over by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second scan is what confirms the change, puts out the light and notes whatever is still outstanding.

## The failures a DPF clean cannot fix

One thing is what a clean cures — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:

- a pressure or temperature sensor reporting a restriction that is not there

- EGR valves that hang open

- an AdBlue system failure

- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration running at all

- turbo problems, with oil entering the filter

Which is why the diagnostic goes first.

Where one of those proves the fault, you find out about it in advance rather than once the money has changed hands already.

Two things more worth knowing. Leaving the filter gutted is not a fix — a vehicle without a working DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your existing filter is cleared in place and returned into use.

## DPF cleaning charges around Grade

Treatment begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.

Publishing a flat rate would not be honest. We fix it on the phone, once the motor and its likely needs are established.

The motor shifts it, and so does the address — Grade, St Ruan, or anywhere otherwise out in the TR postcode area.

If the check rules cleaning out, there is nothing to pay for it.

The call-out charge even so stands, because the visit, the check and the advice have happened.

The job carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Grade if the light comes back inside that period.

## Vehicles we clean, and where we get to around Grade

Whatever it is — car, light van, light commercial, heavy goods vehicle, plant, construction machinery, farm vehicle — the one mobile service holds, and the filter never departs it.

Nearly every week there is usually someone on Prazegooth Lane, so Grade hardly ever means a detour, and St Ruan, Poltesco and the places past Ruan Minor follow.

Coverage is UK-wide, so farther out around Cornwall is even so worth a call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

## Things Grade drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive shift it?

Early enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes.

Fifteen minutes to Co-op Food and back will not manage it; motorway speed, held for a while, will.

How long does the visit last?

That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily blocked filter can require cleaning twice, which runs on.

Around Grade, what does it come to?

Cleaning starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the check and the advice.

Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why quoting goes by phone.

Must I be present in person?

You need not stand with it — the car only needs somewhere to stand for a couple of hours.

Preferring to be there is fine: the regeneration then is done out on the move, monitored.

Travelling to Grade — how soon?

You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the schedule.

Call 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is free across the TR area.

Does the filter leave the motor?

Treated where it stands, on this service, so no.

Taking a filter off or bolting one back on come to anything a job we do either way.

And if the light comes back?

An engineer heads back out to Grade — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
