# Farraline, Highland: Mobile DPF Cleaning

With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the motor.

An engineer comes at your address across Farraline, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the vehicle, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.

You'll know a price by phone before anyone leaves, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.

Most owners find us with the light showing, and the car low on power. That is the situation this page is written for.

## What to do when the DPF light shows

The DPF is not always what is to blame, and that goes first.

A check goes before the treatment, because that same panel light has several likely faults behind it.

Second thing: how you run it between now and then makes a difference.

- Amber light, motor still driving as normal — a long constant run can even now sort it alone. Costs nothing at all, and worth attempting before you book anything.

- That window has closed once the vehicle has fallen into limp mode. Motoring will not do it now.

- A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under the throttle, is the moment to stop planning long drives and call.

## What the motor has been showing you

Symptoms have usually been building for weeks before the light ever appears. Belated news, in other words:

- going uphill, the power falls off

- the revs no longer climb the way they used to

- the fuel use is worse

- a stop/start that has quietly given up

- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under hard acceleration

Any one of those, taken singly, is not conclusive.

Alongside the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.

## The cause diesel particulate filters choke near Farraline

Farraline is an area, and the motoring that goes with one is the poorest sort for a DPF.

The school run to the local primary school, B862 at a standstill at half eight, five minutes to Scotmid Coop, the dash to the nearest station — not one bit of it lasts long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration.

Instead of clearing, the unburnt soot builds up.

Except when you have a regular reason to drive out to the M90, over 50 miles from Farraline, or over to Inverness under 25 miles away, entire weeks go by without a sustained stint. Geography is no help.

## Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration

What limp mode means is the motor protecting itself.

With output limited and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter requires can never happen at all. That matters, because triggering one is exactly what a sustained run does.

So the usual advice to get it up the motorway is sound advice, until it is not.

In limp mode you are the far side of that point: treatment is what will work, not more miles.

## DPF cleaning at the motor round Farraline

On your front, in a work car park, any place the motor can sit for a while: the job happens with the filter yet bolted on, which is the detail most drivers do not anticipate.

A diagnostic happens first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and related components, so other faults are eliminated before a thing is started.

Then the treatment. A solution goes in through the access port on that motor and expands inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift.

A second pass is sometimes required on heavily loaded filters.

What the clean has freed is then driven off by a regeneration.

Ride along with the car and it turns into a monitored drive out of Farraline. Park it and the regeneration runs in place, with real-time data checked once it is done.

Both sets of figures are sent by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second check is what verifies the change, puts out the light and logs whatever is still open.

## The problems a DPF clean cannot cure

A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean fixes. It will not help:

- a pressure sensor flagging a block that is not there

- the EGR valve jammed open

- AdBlue system failures

- faulty glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever completes

- a turbo passing oil through the filter

The first diagnostic is there for precisely that.

When one of those is the fault, you hear about it at the outset rather than once the money has changed hands for good.

Hollowing the filter out is not a remedy: without a functioning DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the phrase people type in, though nothing is replaced — your original filter is cleared in place and put back into use. Two more worth knowing.

## The figure for DPF cleaning in Farraline

Treatment begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.

No single flat rate would be truthful, so the price is fixed on the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need.

A pair of things move it: what you drive, and where you are — Farraline itself, out at Errogie, or farther out across the IV postcode area.

If the diagnostic rules cleaning out, there is nothing to pay for it.

The call-out charge nonetheless applies, because the visit, the check and the advice have taken place.

If the light reappears inside that period, an engineer heads back out to Farraline — the work carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.

## Vehicles we clean, and where we reach around Farraline

Whatever it is — car, van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the very same mobile service stands, and the filter never departs it.

Farraline is hardly ever a special trip: technicians are along B862 week in week out, and the same run covers Errogie, Easter Aberchalder and the places out past Gorthleck.

Coverage runs UK-wide, so farther out around Highland is even so worth a ring, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

## Farraline itself

Farraline is a small locality situated on the shores of a lake in the Scottish Highlands, with an elevation of around 230 metres. Farraline lies approximately 16 miles from Inverness and is surrounded by other small communities such as Dhuhallow and Errogie. Farraline has a population of around 88 people and predominantly features detached housing. Farraline is located in a scenic area, with the city of Inverness being the nearest major urban centre.

## Things Farraline drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive clear it?

Sometimes, if you spot it early and the car has not dropped into limp mode.

It takes a steady run at motorway speed, not ten minutes or so to Scotmid Coop and back.

How long does the visit last?

It is typically around 2 hours. A badly blocked filter can take a second clean, which lengthens that.

Across Farraline, what does it cost?

The call-out charge pays for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; treatment itself starts from £299.

We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the price.

Do I have to be there?

The car requires a place for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it.

Travel along if you would rather, and the regeneration is done as a supervised drive.

Travelling to Farraline — how soon?

Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is typical.

One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the IV area has free.

Does the filter come away from the vehicle?

On the call-out service, no: the filter is treated in place.

That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.

And if the light comes back?

Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Farraline.
