# Dowsdale, Lincolnshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the vehicle.

A technician arrives at your door across Dowsdale, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the car, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.

Nobody leaves until the number is settled on the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.

Most drivers find us with the light on already, and the motor low on power. That is the position this page is aimed at.

## What to try when the DPF light shows

The unit is not always what is at fault, and that leads.

That light can follow a number of faults, not only one, so the visit starts with a diagnostic and not with a clean.

How the motor is driven in the meantime matters too.

- A long steady run may still be enough, provided the light is amber and the motor drives normally. Costs nothing at all, so attempt that before booking.

- That window has gone once the motor has dropped into limp mode. Motoring will not get there now.

- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the moment to stop booking long drives and book it in.

## Before the light, what the vehicle was warning you

The light is last news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have normally been building for some time:

- power falling off, above all going uphill

- the revs no longer climb the way they used to

- fuel consumption turning worse

- the stop/start quietly packing in

- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the box

Any one of those, taken by itself, is not conclusive.

With the light beside them, the filter is a fair guess.

## Why diesel particulate filters clog around Dowsdale

Dowsdale is a rural village, and the driving that belongs to one is the poorest sort for a DPF.

A regeneration needs the time and heat, and has none: not on the school run to Shepeau Stow Primary School, not on Daniel's Drove at half eight, not on ten minutes to Spar, and not on the dash to Spalding.

The soot that should clear builds up instead.

Where you sit does not oblige either. The A1(M) is under 15 miles from Dowsdale and Peterborough is under 10 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way routinely, entire weeks go by without the long steady run that might scour the filter by itself.

## Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration

Limp mode is the motor protecting itself.

With pulling power held down and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter requires can never happen at all. That counts, because triggering one is just what a long run does.

Taking it up the motorway is the common advice, and it holds up to a line.

The far side of that point — limp mode — road work will not manage it, and the filter needs a clean.

## On-site DPF cleaning where the motor stands in Dowsdale

Nothing is taken from the vehicle. That surprises people. The DPF sits bolted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, anywhere it can sit for a couple of hours.

The ECU is read first, reporting soot load by proportion and by weight, along with a look over of sensor feeds, glow plugs and related components, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still in play.

Then the clean. A cleaning solution is fed in through the entry point on that car and expands inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move.

Where the filter is badly clogged, expect a second pass.

A regeneration is next, driving off what the clean has lifted.

That is a monitored drive out of Dowsdale if you are present, or a static regeneration where the vehicle waits, with the running data checked once done.

Then a second scan, verifying the change, resetting the warning light and logging anything still showing. Both reports are emailed, so the before and after figures are recorded.

## What a DPF clean will not fix

Only one fault is fixed by cleaning: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does no good for:

- pressure or temperature sensors showing a blockage that is not there

- the EGR valve jammed open

- a fault in the AdBlue system

- a regeneration that never completes, because of glow plugs or injectors

- the turbo putting oil into the filter

The first diagnostic is there for precisely that.

When it is found to be one of those, you are warned before any work gets going rather than after you have handed over anything.

Two more worth noting. Getting the filter cut out is not a solution — a vehicle without a working DPF fails its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your original filter is cleaned in place and returned into use.

## The price for DPF cleaning across Dowsdale

The clean starts from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that follows.

The figure is settled over the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be straight.

The place you are matters as much as what you drive: Dowsdale itself, Nene Terrace close by, or further out within the PE postcode area.

Cleaning that will not help is not treatment you pay for, and the check is what says so.

What nonetheless holds is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the scan was done and the advice was offered.

Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer heads back to Dowsdale.

## Where we reach near Dowsdale, and what we clean

Cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles — the one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned on the vehicle rather than moved anywhere.

Most weeks there is by then someone on Daniel's Drove, so Dowsdale hardly ever means a special trip, and Nene Terrace, Whaplode Drove and the places past Shepeau Stow follow.

It is the schedule, not the distance, that settles whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so phone even from farther out through Lincolnshire.

## A note on Dowsdale

Dowsdale is a small village in Lincolnshire, situated in a low-lying area near the Wash coast. Dowsdale has a population of around 285 people and is characterized by detached housing. Dowsdale is located near other villages such as Shepeau Stow and Holbeach Drove, and is close to the city of Peterborough. Dowsdale sits at a low elevation of approximately 2 metres above sea level.

## What Dowsdale drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive shift it?

Soon enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes.

Ten minutes to Spar and back will not manage it; motorway speed, sustained for some time, will.

How long does the visit run?

Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is heavily clogged.

What does it come to around Dowsdale?

Treatment opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the check and the advice.

Quoting is done by phone, since what you own and where you live both move the figure.

Do I have to be present?

The car requires a spot for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it.

Travel along if you like, and the regeneration is done as a supervised drive.

Can someone come to Dowsdale soon?

That depends on the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day.

Phone 0303 330 1830 what is available across the PE area.

Is the filter lifted off the car?

On the call-out service, no: the filter is treated in place.

Neither taking a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.

The light comes back — then what?

Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Dowsdale.
