# Climping, West Sussex: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Cleaning the DPF is done at the vehicle, not at a body shop.

The engineer pulls up at your address across Climping and starts. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned still on the car, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you end up with the filter you started with.

Nobody travels until the number is agreed on the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.

The light is showing and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we normally come across people, and precisely what this page covers.

## The DPF light is on. What next?

It could not be the filter whatsoever. That is the main thing.

Treatment is not where a visit begins. A diagnostic is — several faults register as the same light.

The motoring you manage in the meantime counts. That is the second thing.

- Car still driving as normal on an amber light — try a long even run first. It costs zero and regularly shifts the filter without help.

- Vehicle already gone into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not touch it now.

- Stop arranging long drives and get it looked at if the car reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.

## Signs the vehicle has been sending you

The light is last news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have normally been growing for some time:

- power tailing off, above all going uphill

- you find the revs stop short of where they once went

- the fuel economy is poorer

- the stop/start quietly giving up

- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under the throttle

None of that is evidence by itself.

The light beside them indicates a loaded filter.

## The reason diesel particulate filters choke around Climping

Climping is a coastal area, and the motoring that goes with one is the least kind sort for a DPF.

Nothing of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to St Mary's CofE Primary School, Crookthorn Lane crawling at half past eight, a few minutes to Tesco, the dash to Littlehampton.

Instead of burning off, the unburnt soot banks up.

The Waterlooville Bypass lies under 25 miles from Climping, Chichester under 10 miles out, and unless something carries you out that way routinely, entire weeks pass without the long steady run that clears a unit. Geography does not oblige.

## DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode kills it

Limp mode is the vehicle protecting itself.

Power is limited, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter requires can not complete — which is the entire problem, because a long drive works by setting off that regeneration.

So the standard advice to get it up the motorway is sensible advice, until it stops being.

Past that line — limp mode — more driving will not manage it, and the filter needs cleaning.

## DPF cleaning at the car round Climping

The filter does not budge. That is the part most drivers do not anticipate: the job takes place with the DPF even now bolted to the car, on your front, in a work car park, any place the motor can stand for a couple of hours.

A scan comes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and associated hardware, so other faults are ruled out before a thing is cleaned.

Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never shift are freed next, by a solution fed through the access port on that car, which expands inside the filter.

A second pass is sometimes needed on severely loaded filters.

Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean freed.

If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Climping; if not, in place where the motor stands, with the live data read once done.

A second scan proves the change, resets the warning light and notes anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are emailed, so you end up with the before and after figures to hand.

## When a DPF clean is not the solution

Only one fault is fixed by a clean: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does no good for:

- pressure sensors reporting a restriction that is not there

- an EGR valve stuck open

- a fault in the AdBlue system

- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration starting whatsoever

- the turbo passing oil into the filter

That is what the first check is for.

You are told before any work gets going, not after you have paid, where it turns out to be one of those.

Hollowing the filter out is not a fix: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the wording people look up, though nothing is exchanged — your own filter is treated in place and returned into use. Two more worth noting.

## Figures for DPF cleaning across Climping

Cleaning starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.

Once we have what you own, and roughly what the filter will take, the number gets settled over phone. A single price for everyone would not be truthful.

The vehicle changes it, and so does the postcode — Climping, Horsemere Green, or somewhere otherwise out in the BN postcode area.

Where the diagnostic says a clean will not work, you are not billed for a clean.

The call-out charge even so applies, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have been done.

A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the work, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Climping if the light reappears inside the window.

## Vehicles we clean, and where we reach near Climping

Whatever it is — car, light van, light commercial, HGV, plant, construction machinery, agricultural machine — the very same on-site service holds, and the filter never quits it.

Technicians are along Crookthorn Lane nearly every week, so Climping is seldom a detour, and the same run picks up Horsemere Green, Ford and the spots out past Atherington.

It is the diary, not the distance, that picks whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so phone even from further out around West Sussex.

## Climping itself

Climping is a small coastal locality in West Sussex, situated near the mouth of the Arun River and close to the South Downs National Park. Climping has a low elevation of around 2 metres above sea level, reflecting its position on the coastal plain. Climping is characterised by its detached housing and quiet residential atmosphere, with nearby places including Brookpits, Atherington, and Horsemere Green.

## Things Climping drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive shift it?

It can, provided you get it in time and limp mode has not arrived.

A long run at motorway speed is what it wants — not fifteen minutes flat to Tesco and back.

The visit runs how long?

It is typically around 2 hours. A severely loaded filter can take a second clean, which extends that.

In Climping, what does it run to?

It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice.

Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why settling it happens by phone.

Have I got to be present?

No. The motor requires space to sit for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it.

If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be run as a monitored drive instead.

Can someone come to Climping soon?

Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is usual.

One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the BN area has free.

Does the filter come away from the motor?

Done where it is, on this service, so no.

Getting a filter off or fitting one back on come to anything something we do whichever way.

Suppose the light comes back?

Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Climping.
